    • A solid area process control for scavengeless development using a transport roll-to-donor roll DC bias as a control parameter in an electrophotographic printing machine is disclosed. The process develops a latent image of a solid area toner patch on a photoconductive belt. Once the patch is developed, the patch is measured with an infrared reflectance type sensor. The measured development mass is compared to a target value stored in the machine memory. A test of the comparison is performed by the process. If the result of the test is less than the target value, the transport roll-to-donor roll bias is increased and the process ends. If the result is more than the target value, the transport roll-to-donor roll bias is decreased and the process ends, otherwise the process stops because the measured development is acceptable. The process is run at predetermined intervals to maintain constant output from the electrophotographic printing machine.

    • A multi-color electrophotographic printing machine in which the tangential velocity of the photoconductive drum in the transfer zone is greater than the tangential velocity of the transfer drum having the sheet receiving the transferred images thereon. A buckle is formed in the sheet after the transfer zone, resulting in the sheet being tacked to the developed image on the photoconductive member and moving at the same tangential velocity as the developed image. This is achieved by a transfer sheet having one end secured fixedly over an aperture in the transfer drum. The other end of the transfer sheet is resiliently secured to the transfer drum. The sheet of support material receiving the transferred images is secured at the leading edge to the transfer sheet. In this way, the transfer sheet and the sheet of support material may be induced to form a buckle after the transfer zone enabling the sheet of support material and the developed image to move at the same tangential velocity. By moving at the same tangential velocity, the image smear is eliminated during transfer.

    • A method and apparatus to meter ink for electrographic printing is disclosed. An ink loading mechanism having an anilox roller fills ink from an ink supply into cells in the anilox roller having a plurality of valleys and lands that form the cells. The ink loading mechanism causes the valleys to be full or nearly full with the ink. The anilox roller rotates in a first direction. In one embodiment, a soft blade positioned slightly below surface of the lands removes ink from the cells and causes the valleys to be partially filled as the anilox roller rotates. A hard blade positioned at the surface of the lands to clean residue of ink on the surface of the lands as the anilox roller rotates. In another embodiment, a blanket roller rotationally engaged with the anilox roller pulls ink out of the cells and causes the valleys to be partially filled. The blanket roller rotates in a second direction. A first cleaning blade cleans tops of the lands of the cells.
