    • A fuze for a bomblet projectile of the type including a primary firing pin mounted in a housing for axial displacement in the longitudinal direction and a detonation charge carried by a slide disposed in the housing for displacement in a direction transverse to said longitudinal direction of the housing, between a safety position, wherein the detonation charge is not aligned with the primary firing pin, and an armed position, wherein the detonation charge is aligned with primary firing pin. To further improve the firing and safety devices of such fuzes and permit safe pick-up of duds, a lateral recess is provided in a side surface of the slide in the form of a longitudinal groove so that the movement of the slide, if minimum centrifugal forces are no longer present, can be arrested in an intermediate position by renewed engagement of a spring tensioned safety pin in the recess. In this intermediate position the detonation charge remains off center or non-aligned with the primary firing pin, in an interrupted line of ignition. Moreover, in the intermediate position, the slide and in particular ignition element for a self-destruct charge carried by the slide, remains spaced from second firing pin disposed laterally in the housing at the armed position.

    • There is disclosed a kinetic energy type projectile having an armor piercing head which is intended to penetrate multi-shell targets, and even sharply angled targets. The piercing head is provided with favorably discriminated shearing regions which are axially spaced apart by distances corresponding to the thicknesses of the shells which are to be pierced by the piercing head. The shearing regions are provided by external or internal localized transverse weakenings e.g. grooves, or heat treatments by electronic bombardment, applied to the external surface of the piercing head and/or in a central bore in the piercing head. Additionally, the localized weakenings may be provided by bound collars on the piercing head.The shearing regions are progressively stronger in a direction from the front of the piercing head so that they will shear consecutively as the head pierces successive shells of a multi-shell target.

    • An explosive shrapnel shell has a bursting charge having a front end, a layer of shrapnel laterally surrounding the charge except at the end, a fuse mounted on the front end, and shrapnel in the fuse. The fuse includes a detonator charge lying between the fuse shrapnel and the bursting charge. The shell is generally centered on an axis extending through the front end and the fuse includes an axially rearwardly extending tube. The detonator charge is in and axially behind the tube and the fuse shrapnel form a ring circumferentially surrounding the tube. An intensifying charge can lie between the detonator charge and the bursting charge.

    • A submarine explosive device for cutting anchoring chains or cables of sea mines. The device is towed through the water by a mine sweeping vessel via a towing cable. The device includes a gripper body which has a pair of parallel shank portions extending in the towing direction and defining a gripper mouth therebetween for catching the anchoring chains or cables of sea mines. A stabilization float is releasably connected to the gripper body. A release plate is mounted in the throat of the gripper mouth and is adapted to ignite an explosive charge mounted in one of the shank portions of the gripper body. The towing cable is removably mounted in a longitudinal groove extending through the gripper body. Towing cable protecting means are mounted in the other shank portion of the gripper body. The portion of the gripper body in which the explosive charge is housed can be sheared off the remainder of the gripper body when a predetermined force, applied to this portion of the gripper body, is exceeded.
