    • A drill pipe with cold upset ends. The drill pipe includes an elongate tubular portion with a pin joint on one end and a box joint on the other end. Each of the ends of the tubular portion is expanded using a cold upsetting process to provide a transitional portion and a joint receiving portion. The ends of the tubular portion have an inner and outer diameter which is greater than the inner and outer diameter of the tubular portion. The wall thickness of the tubular portion is substantially the same throughout its entire length, including the transitional portions and the joint receiving portions. A drill pipe made in accordance with this invention is durable and less costly to manufacture. A cold upsetting method by which the drill pipe is made utilizes no external heat. An internal mandrel is first inserted hydraulically into the ends of a tubular steel shaft to enlarge the ends. Then, an external “wipe over” die is applied to conform the wall of the ends being expanded to the shape of the internal mandrel. The pipe thus produced has a substantially uniform wall thickness.

    • A method for draw forming a desired contour to the outer diameter of a tubular work piece provides that the selected work piece have a wall thickness uniform throughout its length. The outer diameter of selected work piece is reduced along essentially only a part of the starting metal blank by drawing the metal blank only partly through a die or only partly through each one of a succession of dies. The resulting drawn reduced diameter will have essentially the same wall thickness as the starting blank. If a thinner wall thickness is desired on the reduced outside diameter, an internal mandrel can be inserted in the starting tube, which will work with the draw die to decrease the resulting wall thickness of the drawn tube to an amount less than the starting tube. The workpiece recovered after the drawing method is useful for producing an automotive fuel tank filler tube or an automotive instrument panel support beam.

    • The disclosed structure facilitates threading the film by eliminating both the intermittent movement and the film metering sprocket from the film chamber. Noise is reduced by driving the intermittent movement with a single cam, and faster faster pulldown is obtaind by combining the single cam movement with a re-entrant claw, which also facilitates positioning the movement in a separate sealed compartment. Drive mechanism for a film sprocket in the throat of the magazine includes improved positive clutch structure. Registration pins are driven by an improved linkage which facilitates film threading.

    • In the present cam-driven intermittent movement for motion picture machines the pull-down action is shared by a plurality of cams mounted on a common shaft and operating in tandem, thereby reducing the noise and vibration and/or permitting faster pulldown. One cam drives a claw arm in its swinging movement about a pivot, while the other cam drives a carrier arm which is pivoted at one end on the machine frame and carries at its other end the claw arm pivot. Meshing action of the claw may be controlled by cam action applied to either arm. Such action may be derived from the same cam as the pull-down action, or may employ an auxiliary meshing cam.
