    • A fastener forming apparatus produces a fastener of metal having a rod-to-plate connection often found in such applications as an automotive door latch striker. The fastener is formed and assembled in a single operation and with only a rod and a stamped plate for parts. The forming apparatus has a die structure for securing the rod, a base for vertically aligning the rod, a compression pedestal for vertically aligning the plate and a suspended stamping structure. The stamping structure moves from a pre-staged position for loading of the rod and plate to the die structure, to an intermediate position wherein a head is substantially formed unitarily at the end portion of the rod on one side of the plate, and formation of a unitary protrusion is initiated from the same end portion but on an opposite side of the plate. The structure then moves to a formed position completing the formation of the protrusion, clamping the plate between the head and protrusion, and thus firmly attaching the plate to the rod producing the fastener.

    • A headed fastener clip having a threaded shank with a T-head embedment molded in a hex nut head for rotatably threading the clip into a support. A trim piece attachment post protrudes oppositely from the shank. A pair of spring arms are cantilevered from the post outer free end and diverge dependently therefrom to free ends spaced closely above the nut head. A catch portion adjacent each arm free end dimensioned to overlaps in use mutually opposed marginal edges of a fastener-receiving opening in the trim piece. The nut head has platforms on the head that underlie and support the opening marginal edge when the trim piece is installed on the clip. The fastener clip is first threaded into the support, the trim piece fastener opening registered with clip head and then the trim piece is pushed toward the support. The post free end and spring arms initially freely enter the fastener opening and then its opening edges contact and slide downwardly along the spring arms, thereby yieldably camming them toward the post until the trim piece abuts the clip head. The arms free ends then spring outwardly so that their catch portions overlap the edge openings and thereby releasably secure the trim piece against the fastener head.

    • A fastener with a metal stud removably receivable in a plastic carrier member. A shank of the stud is inserted through a hole in the carrier member and an enlargement on the shank limits the extent to which the shank can be pushed through the hole. The stud is retained in the carrier member by entrapment of a portion of the carrier member surrounding the hole between the enlargement and a ring on the shank which has an interference fit with the hole. To facilitate inserting the ring into and removing it from the hole, the sides of the ring are tapered. The carrier member can be journaled on the shank to rotate freely with respect to the stud. If it is desired to prevent this rotation, the enlargement can have a non-circular configuration and be received in a mating non-circular recess in the carrier member.
