    • A method for assigning a static mobile internet protocol address to a mobile node by an access node is provided. The method includes receiving a mobile registration request message, sending an access request message to an authorization node in response to the registration request, and receiving an access accept message containing a static mobile IP address from the authorization node. The method continues by sending an access registration request message containing the static mobile IP address to a mobile network internet node, which then assigns the static mobile IP address to the mobile node. A mobile access registration request message associated with the mobile registration request message is sent to the mobile network internet node at a time after the access registration request message has been sent. A mobile access registration reply message is received from the mobile network internet node, and a mobile reply registration message containing the static mobile IP address is sent to the mobile node.

    • What is disclosed is a method of operating a communication system which includes a plurality of packet processing systems that each comprises one of a plurality of packet payload inspection systems. The method includes receiving a registration request from a wireless communication device, and in response, selecting one of the packet processing systems for the wireless communication device, obtaining a user profile for the wireless communication device, and obtaining a location for the wireless communication device. The method also includes transferring data indicating the wireless communication device, the user profile for the wireless communication device, and the location for the wireless communication device for delivery to the one of the packet payload inspection systems included in the selected one of the packet processing systems. The method also includes receiving the data in the one of the packet payload inspection systems, and in response, inspecting packet payloads associated with the wireless communication device based on the data.

A second block of packets is sent through the network at a second throughput rate. The second block of packets has the differential treatment field set to a second value. A first report indicating that the reception of the first block of packets satisfies a criteria is received. A treatment field value for the differential treatment field is selected based on the first report and the second report.     • What is disclosed is a system and method wherein a wireless access system configured to receive a data packet with a first quality-of-service indicator value from a wireless device over a wireless link, provide a first level of service to the wireless device over the wireless link based on the first quality-of-service indicator, and transfer the data packet with the first quality-of-service indicator. The communication system includes a core packet network configured to receive the data packet with the first quality-of-service indicator and determine if the first quality-of-service indicator is consistent with a quality-of-service policy for the wireless device. The core packet network is configured, if the first quality-of-service indicator is not consistent with the quality-of-service policy for the wireless device, to determine a second quality-of-service indicator consistent with the quality-of-service policy for the wireless device, and transfer the data packet with the second quality-of-service indicator. The wireless access system is configured to receive the data packet with the second quality-of-service indicator, and provide a second level of service to the wireless device over the wireless link based on the second quality-of-service indicator.
