    • A flexographic printing system uses a flexographic printing plate to produce printed patterns on a substrate. A fountain roller partially submerged in ink in an ink pan is used to transfer ink to an anilox roller, which transfers a controlled amount of ink to the flexographic printing plate. An ink recirculation system is used to reduce variability in system performance resulting from ink viscosity changes. A recirculation pump moves ink through an ink recirculation line connected to an ink recirculation port in an ink pan. The design of the ink pan and ink recirculation port is arranged so that an opening of the ink recirculation port is fully covered by the ink during printing by the flexographic printing system.

    • A closed loop control system for a hydraulically actuated glass sheet press bending platen. Flow of fluid supplied to the cylinder operating the press platen is controlled through a servo solenoid valve. A linear motion transducer associated with the platen and sends appropriate signals to a programmable motion controller. The motion controller controls a position module operatively coupled to a servo solenoid valve which regulates the flow of hydraulic fluid from a pump to the cylinder. The motion controller utilizes data from the linear motion transducer for making necessary corrections to insure that the platen cycles precisely in accordance with a predetermined program. In a second embodiment of the invention, the closed loop control system for the hydraulically operated platen is combined with a precision control of a variable speed glass sheet conveyor means for improved registry of the glass sheet being bent with the platen member.

    • A liquids mixing and dispensing apparatus and method utilize a plurality of liquid supply modules to feed simultaneously charges of a plurality of admixable liquids at predetermined volume flow rates to a mixer to form a batch of a mixture of the liquids, such as a photographic emulsion mixture, in which the liquids are in a predetermined volume ratio. As it is formed, the mixture is delivered to a storage conduit connected to a dispenser, for later dispensing of a discrete volume thereof as a coating onto a moving web by feeding a purge liquid to the mixer. Each module has a piston and cylinder unit with an inlet and outlet (a cylinder port conduit) connected to one end of a tube having a volume at least as large as the maximum volume of the cylinder swept by its piston when driven by an associated motor. A valve selectively connects the other end of the tube either to a liquid source or to the mixer. The ratio of the intermediate or maximum volumes swept by the pistons when concordantly driven by their motors is selected to provide the desired volume ratio of the liquids in the mixture.
