    • A communications device is provided which receives data frames in FIR communications mode even if the device has failed to normally receive a connect frame in SIR communications mode.A communications device according to the invention includes an incoming frame processing section for receiving an SNRM frame and UI frames in different frame formats. The SNRM frame contains a setting for a connection for data communications. The UI frames contain data. The communications device also includes a reception processing section and connect command notification sections. The reception processing section renders a light reception section stand by for reception of the UI frames in FIR communications mode. The connect command notification sections generate a connect command for output to an upper layer. The connect command enables establishing of the same connection when a data frame is received from another communications device as when a connect frame was received from the other communications device.

    • The communications device of the present invention performs an authentication with the device at the other end automatically or through a simple operation, independently of an authentication scheme supported by the device at the other end. A communications device includes: a connecting section for establishing a connection with the other communications device according to the IrSimple scheme; an authentication section for performing an authentication by the IrSimple scheme; a connecting section for establishing a connection with the other communications device according to the IrDA scheme, an authentication section for performing an authentication according to the IrDA scheme; and a protocol switching section for causing the connecting section to initiate a connection and causing the authentication section to perform an authentication, when an authentication by the authentication section is unsuccessful. This makes it possible to switch to a protocol of the IrDA scheme and perform communications according to the IrDA scheme when the other communications device does not support device authentication of the IrSimple scheme although being compliant with the IrSimple scheme.

    • The relation between an input energy at a thermal head and recording density in a thermographical recording system varies inconveniently by the ambient temperature or the head temperature, and moreover, the slope of the relation varies by the temperatures. Therefore, even if the input energy at the thermal head alone is precisely and minutely controlled, it is heretofore difficult to obtain the desired recording density if the temperature fluctuates. Even if the temperature at the thermal head is detected by a temperature sensor, and compensation is made based on the detected temperature, it is still difficult to achieve recording of high quality because there inevitably arise a time lag between the detected temperature and the real temperature of a heating resistor which is recording images. This invention method enables high quality recording by estimating a real temperature at the heating resistor out of detected temperatures obtained with a temperature sensor and compensating the temperature based upon the estimated temperature.

    • A sheet material supplying apparatus having a low-cost sucker adsorbing unit of a simple structure is provided for the carrying of sheet materials that are used under a high-humidity environment or that include humidity, to ensure a proper separation of each sheet material. Sheet materials accommodated in a tray are being sandwiched between a push-up panel and an engagement claw. At the time of taking out the sheet materials from the tray, the push-up panel is pressed down by a cam to cancel the state of sandwiching between the engagement claw and the push-up panel. Accordingly, only the top layer sheet material is taken out from the tray, with the rest of the lower layer sheet materials being dropped by their self-weight. Further, the sheet materials are carried by the sucker adsorbing unit. When a sucker adsorbing a sheet material by a negative pressure has moved to a carrying roller, a sucker supporting section is elastically deformed by a sucker pressing unit, so that the negative pressure within the sucker can be cancelled. Accordingly, a complex control system is not required for cancelling the negative pressure.
