    • A pre-assembled unit 10 for use in assembly of an engine valve system 150 in an engine 152. The pre-assembled unit 10 includes a spring 14 for providing a force for urging an engine valve 156 in a first direction, a spring seat 20 engaged with the spring 14, a spring retainer 78 for maintaining the spring 14 in a concentric position around the valve 156, and locks 82 for lockingly engaging the spring retainer 78 and the valve 156. The spring retainer 78 and the locks 82 transmit the spring force to the valve 156. The pre-assembled unit 10 includes a retention member 120 for temporarily maintaining the spring 14, the spring seat 20 and the spring retainer 78 together prior to installation into the engine valve system 150. The retention member 120 cooperates at its upper section 130 with the locks 82 and at its lower section 124 with an oil seal 22 on the spring seat 20 to hold the spring retainer 78 and the spring seat 20 in engagement with the spring 14. The retention member 120 is removable from the pre-assembled unit 10 upon relative movement of the valve 152 and the pre-assembled unit 10 during assembly of the engine valve system 150 in the engine 152.

    • A spring retainer (10) for a poppet valve (18) which is biased by a valve spring (16) and a method of assembling the spring retainer (10) the poppet valve (18) and a valve spring (16). The spring retainer (10) has first and second body portions (30, 32). Each body portion (30, 32) has a spring flange segment (50), for engaging a valve spring (16), and a finger segment (54), for extending into a groove (26) on a valve stem (20) of the poppet valve (18). The spring retainer (10) has a slot (44) which permits relative movement between the first and second body portions (30, 32) such that the spring retainer (10) may be installed on the poppet valve (18). The spring retainer (10) has frangible web segments (36) for retaining the first and second body portions (30, 32) together prior to installment of the spring retainer (10) on the poppet valve (18). The web segments (36) break during installation of the spring retainer (10) to permit outward movement of the first and second body portions (30, 32).

The device can comprise a cutting edge configured to be selectively engaged with a snow plow bottom. The cutting edge can comprise a front surface, rear surface, and a bottom surface. The rear surface may comprise a rear extension rearwardly projecting from the front surface. The rear extension can comprise a rear face surface configured relatively perpendicular to a target surface, and to provide a back-drag surface for the cutting edge.

    • A spring retainer for a poppet valve having a valve stem and a groove in the valve stem. The poppet valve is biased by a valve spring. The spring retainer includes a one-piece annular body having an opening through which the valve stem extends. The body has a spring flange encircling the body. The spring flange has a surface agains which the valve spring acts. The surface lies in a plane. The body further has members which deflect outwardly as the valve stem is inserted into the opening. The members snap into the groove to lock the retainer to the valve stem. The members include a plurality of fingers extending inwardly toward the opening and extending upwardly from the plane. Each of the fingers has an upper surface which tapers upwardly and inwardly as it extends from the spring flange and an inner surface for engaging the valve stem.

    • A unitary composite stator vane for a gas turbine engine comprising an aerodynamically configured airfoil section, a foot extending substantially perpendicularly from one end of the airfoil section, and a smoothly contoured transition section interconnecting the airfoil section with the foot. The stator vane is comprised of a composite material including a plurality of compression molded, heat cured plies. The plies include a plurality of centrally located internal plies of reinforcement material of continuous yarns of para-aramid fibers. On each side of the internal plies are plies of resin impregnated graphite fiber material. The graphite fibers are protected by an external steel wire mesh ply covering the leading edges of the vanes. Substantially all of the internal para-aramid reinforcement fibers are discontinuous proximate the transition section between the airfoil section and foot.
