The agent contains a tetraalkylbenzidine, a penicillin, or its breakdown products obtained by acid hydrolysis, as stabilizer,a peroxide and buffer substances. The agent according to the invention has, as a peroxidase substrate, the advantage over previous tetraalkylbenzidine-containing substrates that it is stable on storage as solution for use, and produces a lower background coloration.
