    • The invention is directed to a medical device comprised of at least one device part that is electrically operated and can be switched between an idle state and an operating state and a method of controlling such device. A control unit is provided which switches an electrically operated device part from the operating state to the idle state. Alternatively or in addition, a person detector and a control unit are provided, wherein a control unit switches the device part to the operating state in case the person detector detects the presence of a person at a distance from the device. Alternatively or in addition, an operating control is provided for manually switching the device from the operating state to the idle state.

    • An arrangement for measuring the power or energy of optical radiation of radiation sources, especially laser radiation is disclosed. It comprises a module defining an open or at least partially closed hollow space, wherein the inner walls or outer walls of the module are entirely or partially occupied by detectors for generating measurement signals which are proportional to the measured parameters of the radiation sources. The detectors are connected together in such a way that their generated measurement signals are further processed to form at least one resultant sum signal or the detectors are connected to a downstream processing device to form at least one resultant sum signal. This at least one resultant sum signal is relatively independent from the position, arrangement and radiating characteristic of the examined radiation source in the module. At least one opening or guide-through is provided in the module for inserting the radiation source to be examined.

    • The invention is directed to a protective device for electrosurgical probes which are provided particularly in ophthalmology for intraocular treatment of the eye and comprise two electrodes that are arranged coaxial to one another, an insulator being arranged therebetween, and the two electrodes make contact with a connection of a current and voltage device. In order to provide a protective device for the inner electrode that can be built so as to operate in a simple manner, can be produced economically and ensures sufficient safety for operation in surgical procedures, it is proposed that an electrosurgical probe has, in its front portion, a protective device in which an inner electrode and an insulator are held in a protected manner in a reference position by an outer electrode which is movable in the longitudinal axis of the electrosurgical probe. A user releases an electrode tip of the inner electrode in a working position by initiating an axial movement process of the outer electrode. The electrosurgical probe has a handle element for handling the electrosurgical probe and the protective device.
