摘要： An insulation product especially suited for use as an aircraft insulation includes a blanket of randomly oriented entangled glass fibers bonded together by a thermosetting binder and having a mean diameter of about 1+/−0.25 microns. The blanket has a density between about 0.25 and about 1.5 pounds per cubic foot and a thickness between about 0.35 inches and about 2.0 inches. The blanket, exclusive of anything else, has an average machine direction tensile strength of at least 0.6 pounds/inch of blanket width and an average cross machine direction tensile strength of at least 0.3 pounds/inch of blanket length; a transverse airflow resistance between about 300 Rayls and about 1800 Rayls; and a thermal conductivity equal to or less than about 0.32 BTU-in/hr-ft2-° F. The glass fibers of the blanket have a biodissolution rate in excess of 150 ng/cm2/hr.

摘要： Embodiments introduce redundant optical channels to significantly extend the lifetime of parallel optical transceivers. A plurality of transmitters, N, transmit on a plurality of optical channels, where N is an integer number of optical channels greater than 1. One or more redundant channels, M, are also provided. N+M multiple input shift registers provide multiple paths for signals from each of the transmitters to connect to N+M laser diodes. In the event up to M of the N+M laser diodes fail, the multiple input shift registers connect the N transmitters to functioning ones of the N+M laser diodes thus extending the life of the device. A corresponding scheme is also described for the receiver side.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for multiplexing and demultiplexing optical signals. An interleaver having a modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer as a first stage is used as a wavelength division multiplexer. This first stage is combined with one or more cascaded stages, each having a beam splitter and an optical delay element. A light beam including a number of signals at different wavelengths is received. The beam is split such that approximately half of each signal is contained in one of two sub-beams. One of the two sub-beams passes through a delay element, which provides a phase shift. The two sub-beams are recombined and split again. Each wavelength adds constructively or destructively in the new sub-beams such that the signals are separated—some wavelengths are in one of the new sub-beams, some are in the other. One of these sub-beams is delayed, and the two are combined and split again, improving the separation.
