    • A system and method that implements top-down and bottom-up model-driven transformations between platform-independent (business view) modeling approaches and platform-specific (IT architectural) models. On the business level, business view models may be expressed in, but not limited to ADF or UML2, whereas on the IT architecture side, service-oriented architectures with Web service interfaces and processes are specified in business process protocol languages including, but not limited to, BPEL4WS, or workflow definitions. An architecture and a transformation method based on typed information flows automatically transforms platform-independent business models into executable information technology (IT) architecture specifications constrained by a specific IT platform, and vice versa. The models generated span the entire life cycle of a software system and ease the software production, deployment and maintenance tasks. That is, the different models generated for the same system are “linked” in a way that relevant changes in one model may be propagated to the other models to keep the model set consistent.

    • A mechanism is provided for forming a business entity model. A selection of business components is received from a business function model to be selected business components. Activities are found in an industry reference model to be selected activities corresponding to selected business components. Based on the selected activities, industry reference model is scoped to be a scoped industry reference model, which includes reducing business process models in the industry reference model to selected business process models corresponding to selected activities, reducing data models in the industry reference model to selected data models corresponding to use cases of selected activities, and reducing service operations in the industry reference model to selected service operations corresponding to the selected activities. Selected activities and scoped industry reference model are customized. Based on a business entity template, selected activities, and scoped industry reference model, business entities are generated to form a business entity model.

    • A confocal imaging system utilizes an opaque mask with a slit and a row of pinpoint sensors or utilizes an opaque mask with a skewed pattern of pinholes and an array of isolated pinpoint sensors in a matching pattern in order to obtain sufficient data to provide a complete image for imaging and/or inspecting an object such as electronics in a single one-dimensional scan. The system also simultaneously produces multiple images at different heights in the single one-dimensional scan of the viewed object, and also simultaneously produces images taken in different spectral bands in the same one-dimensional scan of the object to be imaged and/or inspected. The relative height or depth of the different images can be modified by simply adjusting the inclination between the confocal imaging system and a path followed by the object that is to be imaged and/or inspected during the one-dimensional scan. The optical confocal imaging system requires no moving parts and the only moving parts of the system are for motorized conveying of the object to be imaged and/or inspected along the path. In one arrangement of the confocal imaging system, color imaging and/or inspecting of the object can be performed. In another arrangement of the confocal imaging system, simultaneous brightfield and darkfield imaging and/or inspecting of an object can be performed.
