    • Retrieval of similar content item or documents is provided based on similarity of their location or place. A base location is determined, for example using a GPS device. Location of one or more identified anchor document(s), in a database for example, is determined by extracting location data. Then a first threshold is set based on a criterion distance determined between the base location and the anchor item location. A candidate document item location is identified and the location data for candidate content item may be extracted. A distance between the base location and the candidate location may be determined as a candidate distance. A candidate content item may be selected as similar for retrieval based on the first candidate distance and the first threshold. The notion of criterion distance-determined granularity for setting a threshold is provided.

    • Extracting and processing video content encoded in a rendered color space to be emulated by an ambient light source, using perceptual rules for intelligent dominant color selection. Steps include quantizing the video color space; performing dominant color extraction by using a mode, median, mean, or weighted average of pixel chromaticities; applying perceptual rules to further derive dominant chromaticities via [1] chromaticity transforms; [2] a weighted average using a pixel weighting function influenced by scene content; and [3] extended dominant color extraction where pixel weighting is reduced for majority pixels; and [4] transforming the dominant color chosen to the ambient light color space using tristimulus matrices. A color of interest can be further analyzed to produce a true dominant color, and past video frames can guide selection of dominant colors in future frames.

    • An electronic billboard provides a “third-party” response-number for viewers to respond to a currently displayed electronic message. For the duration that a message is displayed on the electronic billboard, and optionally for a short duration afterwards, calls that are received at the response-number are routed to a contact-number of the party that posted the message. Because the contact-number to which the response-number forwards the response is not known to the sender of the response, the identity of the poster of the message remains anonymous. Because the duration that responses to the poster of the message is limited, the amount of abuse that a responder can inflict upon the poster of the message is limited.
