    • An optical head device includes a first light source and a second light source which respectively emits a first light beam and a second light beam, a luminous flux separating section which selectively separates the first and second light beams for which the same optical path is used, to first and second optical paths, respectively, a first objective lens for converging the first light beam that has been separated to the first optical path on the first optical information recording medium, a second objective lens made of resin for converging the second light beam separated to the second optical path on the second optical information recording medium, and a first filtering section formed on a beam exit face of the second objective lens, for reducing the transmittance of the first light beam to be lower than transmittance of the second light beam.

    • Provided are an optical pickup device which is compatible with a plurality of disc standards, and can stably monitor the outputs from light sources, and an objective lens system used in the optical pickup device. An optical pickup device 50 includes a light source 1 emitting light of a first wavelength of a red band and light of a second wavelength of an infrared band; a light source 10 emitting light of a blue-violet band for BD 10; a collimating lens 4; mirrors 5, 7 each transmitting a portion of a light beam outputted from the collimating lens 4 while folding an optical path of the other portion of the light beam; objective lenses 6, 8 each converging the light beam folded by the mirrors 5, 7 on a recording layer of an optical disc; and a light-receiving element 15 detecting an intensity of the light beam transmitted through the mirrors 5, 7. The collimating lens 4 adjusts the parallelisms of the lights emitted from the light sources 1, 10, and outputs the light of the first wavelength as a converging light beam, and the light of the second wavelength as a diverging light beam.

    • When performing a read or write operation on an optical disc with information storage layers, this compatible optical head with a two-focus lens can reduce interference caused by an unnecessary diffracted light reflected from a non-target layer and not contributing to reading or writing. The head reads and/or writes information from/on storage media, including first and second media with different protective substrate thicknesses, by irradiating a given one with a laser beam and includes: a diffraction element that diffracts the beam to produce diffracted light of multiple orders; an objective lens for converging nth and mth order ones of the light on the respective storage layers of the first and second media; a photodetector that receives the beam reflected from the medium and condensed; and a light shielding portion for preventing a portion of the beam reflected from the storage layer of the second medium and including its optical axis from reaching the photodetector. The light shielding portion is arranged so as to reduce loss to be caused by cutting off the portion of the beam to a predetermined value or less.
