    • An object extracting method using a motion picture more accurately and rapidly extracts a specific object by using a difference image frame of a pair of still image frames obtained from a motion picture and color information which defines a color of the object. The object extracting method using a motion picture includes the steps of: obtaining a difference image frame by getting a pair of still image frames having a predetermined time interval from a motion picture and obtaining a color image frame which satisfies color information defining a color of a particular object from one of the still image frames; performing a grid processing of a logic image frame which is obtained from the difference image frame and the color image frame at a predetermined size and obtaining connected components using direction connection information and defining minimum areas each includes the connected components; comparing each of the minimum areas with predetermined conditions, thereby selecting the minimum areas which satisfy the conditions as object area candidates; and selecting and optimizing a largest object area candidate among the object area candidates.

    • A buffer management method using a buffer locking mechanism in a storage system for supporting a multi-user environment. The buffer hash anchor is acquired with no exclusive latch while allocation of the empty buffer is required to read a desired page into the buffer using a buffer locking chain including buffer locking entries in the form of a list. Page locking is executed only when a buffer associated with a desired page does not exist in the buffer frame chain. Accordingly, there is no interference with transactions requiring access to other pages. It is also possible to prevent the buffer hash anchor from using an exclusive latch for a lengthy period of time due to other transactions concurrently requiring allocation of empty buffers. Therefore, there is no degradation in performance of the entire system. Since the page locking is executed only for a page read from the disk, the overhead required for the page locking is minimized. As a result, management of buffers can be efficiently achieved without unnecessary disk input/output operations, thereby improving the performance of the storage system.

    • Disclosed is a multimedia searching method and apparatus that can achieve a high performance and provide a interoperability by defining a histogram using uniformly quantized bin values as a standard histogram, and a comparative search can be performed using a search histogram having non-uniformly-quantized bin values based on the standard histogram. The non-uniformly quantized bin values of the search histogram can be determined for each application by non-uniformly combining the uniformly-quantized bin values. According to a method, the histogram is defined as a standard histogram, and a comparative search is performed by converting the standard histogram. Further, a standard histogram obtained by uniformly quantizing a given color space can be converted into a search histogram (e.g., determined for a certain application) by non-uniformly combining the bins obtained by uniformly quantizing the color space into the N partial regions.
