    • The present invention provides for microporous ceramic materials having a surface area in excess of 50 m.sup.2 /gm and an open microporous cell structure wherein the micropores have a mean width of less than 20 Angstroms and wherein said microporous structure comprises a volume of greater than about 0.015 cm.sup.3 /gm of the ceramic. The invention also provides for a preceramic composite intermediate composition comprising a mixture of a ceramic precursor and finely divided particles comprising a non-silicon containing ceramic, carbon, or an inorganic compound having a decomposition temperature in excess of 400.degree. C., whose pyrolysis product in inert atmosphere or in an ammonia atmosphere at temperatures of up to less than about 1100.degree. C. gives rise to the microporous ceramics of the invention. Also provided is a process for the preparation of the microporous ceramics of the invention involving pyrolysis of the ceramic intermediate under controlled conditions of heating up to temperatures of less than 1100.degree. C. to form a microporous ceramic product.

    • This invention involves a new class of microporous zinc phosphorous oxide and zinc arsenic oxide compositions and method of preparation. The novel compositions have an oxide framework containing zinc and an oxide selected from the group consisting of phosphorous oxides, arsenic oxides and mixtures thereof as the sole lattice constituents specifically the compositions have the formula;[M.sub.a (R.sub.4 X).sub.b ]{[Zn.sub.p O.sub.q ][(TO.sub.4-e)(OH).sub.e ].sub.y L.sub.f }.gH.sub.2 Owhere M is selected from the group consisting of H, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Tl, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, and mixtures thereof; R is selected from the group consisting of H, alky groups having about 1 to about 8 carbon atoms, preferably about 1 to about 4 carbon atoms, and mixtures thereof; X is selected from the group consisting of N, P, As, and mixtures thereof; T is selected from the group consisting of P, As, and mixtures thereof; L is a halogen, and mixtures thereof; a, b, g, q, f are numerical values of from 0 to 200; p and y are numerical values greater than 0 up to about 200; and e is any numerical value from 0 to 4; provided that, when M is K and y is 2, e is not 1/2.
