摘要： In accordance with the present disclosure, a system and method for providing scalable and modular power infrastructure outside of usable rack space is described. The system may include a chassis configured to mount on the side of a rack. A power cable interface box (PCIB) may be disposed within the chassis, and the PCIB may receive alternating current (AC) power. The system may further include at least one power supply unit disposed within a slot of the chassis, with the at least one power supply unit receiving AC power from the PCIB and outputting direct current (DC) power to a busbar. The system may also include a battery back-up unit (BBU) element disposed within the chassis. The BBU element may charge from and discharge to the busbar.

The power infrastructure may include a power distribution unit (PDU), which receives alternating current (AC) power from an external power source. The PDU may be coupled to a busbar and output DC power to the busbar. The busbar may be coupled to a server within a rack-server system and provide DC power to the server. Additionally, the infrastructure may include a battery back-up unit (BBU) element coupled to the busbar. The BBU element may charge from and discharge to the busbar.

The BBU element may include a rack-mountable chassis with a battery drawer. A battery may be disposed within the battery drawer, and at least one power module may be coupled to the battery. The BBU element may also include a power module controller that causes the battery to charge from or discharge to a busbar coupled to the BBU element. The power module controller may also communicate power management information to a power infrastructure controller.

In one form, an extension apparatus can include a first coupling interface operable to be coupled to an first expansion terminal of a printed circuit board. The apparatus can also include a retention mechanism aligned to a surface of the first coupling interface. The retention mechanism can be used to engage a first exterior surface of the first expansion terminal upon coupling the first coupling interface to the first expansion terminal. The apparatus can further include an access terminal operably coupled to the first coupling interface and an expansion circuit coupled between the first coupling interface and the access terminal. The expansion circuit can electrically couple the first expansion terminal to access terminal.
