    • It is presented a power controller which is adapted to be coupled to a fixed node of a cellular network, wherein at least one user equipment is adapted to be associated with the fixed node. The power controller comprises: a signal to interference ratio, SIR, determiner arranged to determine a maximum SIR target for each of the at least one user equipment, which maximum SIR target is arranged to limit maximum transmission power of the at least one user equipment; wherein the determiner determines a maximum SIR target for each of the at least one user equipment directly or indirectly based on the number of user equipments in the cell of each respective user equipment. A corresponding method, computer program and computer program product are also presented.

    • A system and method for improving soft hand-off in a CDMA system uses mobile station location and velocity information to maintain soft hand-off legs with those cells in which the mobile station is more likely to be located. The system and method of the present invention estimates the weighted probability of the mobile station arriving in neighboring cells and produces “bias” values for those cells that the mobile station is more likely to be entering or to be located in. These bias values are used for modifying signal quality values for those cells, and for determining whether the current cell or neighbor cells are to be placed in an active set so as to establish, or maintain, soft hand-off legs. The system and method of the present invention thus chooses those cells which are more likely to be retained as soft hand-off legs and therefore reduces the overall number of soft hand-offs.

    • To facilitate, e.g., determination of access rights in a shared network context, a telecommunications network transmits, in a broadcast channel over an air interface, an access group eligibility message to a user equipment unit. The access group eligibility message enables the user equipment unit to ascertain, on a basis of access group to which the user equipment unit belongs, whether the user equipment unit is eligible to operate in a cell for which the access group eligibility message is transmitted. The telecommunications network also includes a core network node which, classifies the user equipment unit in at least one of plural access groups. Further, the core network node generates an access group classification message which advises the user equipment unit as to which of the plural access groups the user equipment unit belongs. Upon receipt of the access group classification message, the user equipment unit stores an access group classification obtained from the access group classification message in a memory at the user equipment unit. An access controller of the user equipment unit (upon receiving the access group eligibility message) compares the stored access group classification with contents of the access group eligibility message to determine whether the user equipment unit is allowed access to the cell for which the access group eligibility message is transmitted.

    • A loop network hub including a hub port with a loop initialization insertion mechanism. The loop initialization insertion mechanism causes a hub port which detects a new node port connection to automatically begin generating loop initialization data. A hub port continues to generate loop initialization data until that hub port receives a loop initialization sequence. The loop initialization data propagates around the loop of the hub, halting ordinary processing. In this way, the entire loop is cleared. Upon receiving a loop initialization sequence, the hub port originating the loop initialization data inserts the new node port into the loop. At this point, loop initialization begins and each node port in the loop network obtains a unique loop network address.
