    • Compounds are disclosed for the production of chemiluminescent light, particularly for the production of blue/violet light within the range of about 390 nm to less than 438 nm, and most particularly to the use of compounds composed of symmetrically and asymmetrically substituted anthracenes which are effective for increasing the production of such blue/violet light when used as fluorescers in conjunction with chemiluminescent systems. These systems utilize derivatives of 9,10-diphenylanthracene containing one or more fluorines As shown in General Formulae 1-3. The variables shown in Formulae 1-3 are defined in the specification.

    • Chemical light producing systems and the chemiluminescent formulations contained therein are taught which exhibit reduced hydrolysis and thereby are characterized by an inherently long shelf-life and commercial viability. By replacing the typical oxalate ester, e.g. (bis{3,4,6-trichloro-2-[(pentoxy)carbonyl]phenyl}oxalate) with a branched chain oxalic acid ester represented by the general formula: wherein the group designated as R contains from 4-15 carbons, wherein the carbon of attachment of R to the oxygen is via a primary carbon, and wherein substructure A is composed of substituents selected from the group including alkyl chains, alkyl rings, aromatic rings and combinations thereof such that R is nonlinear, water hydrolysis of the oxalate ester is retarded. This retardation of the hydrolysis changes the storage constraints of the oxalate ester.

    • The present invention teaches a chemiluminescent device along with a process for its production. The invention specifically relates to a chemiluminescent article of manufacture (FIG. 1), which includes a containment device (12) having polymeric outer containment (18, 20), and chemical system of oxalate solution inside frangible vial (14), and activator inside frangible vial (16), both the containment device and chemical system may be selected to be particularly susceptible to environmental degradation subsequent to their use. In a preferred embodiment, the chemiluminescent device is designed for an enhanced shelf life prior to use while remaining capable of losing its physical form and re-entering the environment after use.

    • A chemiluminescent lighting device having a flexible casing surrounding the source of light. A separate transparent, translucent or opaque sleeve is placed about the casing to improve the gripping and the aesthetic feel of the device while passing the light. The sleeve may be in the form of a spiral or net exposing portions of the casing. The sleeve may include colored polymers to produce multi-colored effects. The sleeve may also include fluorescers to retain intensity and/or change colors. The lighting device enhances the visual appeal of novelty items such as necklaces and bracelets, and provides a tactile grip when used as a hand-held illumination device.
