    • In a high speed package printer that produces photographs of varying size from film negatives, different cropping apertures are used with different lenses for different prints. In order to provide a large combination of different cropping apertures with different lenses the lenses and cropping apertures are separately selected for each print. The high speed package printer includes a light source, a diffusion plate, a plurality of cropping apertures on an aperture member which can be moved to select which aperture will block light from the diffusion plate. The light from the cropping aperture then passes through a negative for projection by a lens onto photographic paper for printing pictures. Separate means for moving the aperture member and for selecting which lens will receive light from a negative after it is provide a selection of all combinations of lenses and cropping apertures such that the photographs produced can have different sizes and shapes.

    • An apparatus and method relating to the print quality of a high speed package printer that produces photographs of varying size from film negatives. The high speed package printer includes a diffusion plate and a diffusion plate cleaner, and a film cleaner to remove dust and unwanted particles from the diffusion plate and film, thereby increasing the quality of prints from the printer. The apparatus increases print quality by having a plate that diffuses light from a light source shining on the photographic paper, and by automatically cleaning the diffusion plate with a brush during the time between exposures and while the photographic paper and photographic film are advancing. The apparatus also increases print quality with a film cleaning arrangement that includes applying an electrostatic charge to the film, brushing the surface of the film, vacuuming the surface of the film and using sticky rollers to remove any dust or other particles during the advancement of the film to the light source and during the time between exposures.

    • An improved high speed package printer for producing a plurality of high quality photographs of varying size, shape, and style based on one or a plurality of different film negatives. The improved package printer of the present invention accomplishes the goal of increased throughput and speed through the use of an automatic paper-loading feature, ultrasonic proximity sensors for dynamically measuring paper-slack loops, off-center printing for eliminating the need to advance the paper for punching after each exposure, a rotational prism for creating 10".times.13" photographs without physically rotating the film, a 13-UP lens deck including 12 wallet lenses and a single 5".times.7" retro-focus lens for creating 12 wallet-sized photographs and one 5".times.7" photograph from a single exposure, an automatic diffusion plate cleaner for eliminating the system down time associated with manual diffusion plate cleaning, an improved filtering arrangement for equalizing the amount of energy emitted from each lamp within a photographic lamphouse, and bi-directional film movement for producing a single composite containing a plurality of different images or poses. The high speed package printer of the present invention also boasts an improved film cleaning arrangement for increasing the quality of the prints, as well as penumbra masking for producing photographs having sharply delineated borders.

    • A single lens or optical system is used to image two different optical bands, for example visible and infrared, with the same possible adjustments in zoom and/or focus. A dual band singlet is formed of a first, larger, optical element, suitable for operating on light of a first optical band, with an aperture cut out of it. A smaller element, suitable for operating on light of a second optical band, is secured in, or on either side of, the aperture cut through the larger optical element, thus forming a dual band singlet that can operate on two different wavelength bands. Combinations of dual band lenses, lens elements, and lenses with cut-out apertures are used to form dual-band optical systems, including systems with dual-band focus and zoom.

    • A replacement chamber shield is provided for a wafer processing machine that replaces many prior art shield components with a single piece shield. The shield is particularly suitable for use in a processing chamber of a vacuum processing machine of a type for processing a wafer in a vertically-oriented split-plenum, such as machines of the type described in U.S. Pat. Nos. 4,909,695 and 4,915,564 and the machine marketed under the trademark ECLIPSE MARK II by Tokyo Electron Limited. The shield is formed of sheet material formed into an axially-extending cylindrical sidewall that turns radially inwardly into an annular shoulder that oppositely turns into an at least partially axially-extending section that further turns oppositely back radially inwardly into an annular disc having a central circular opening that is larger in diameter than the given wafer diameter. Advantageous dimensions and geometric relationships to components of the machine are described and claimed.

    • The feedthrough device includes first and second half housing members, each of which has an internal chamber. The feedthrough device further includes a removable header member that fits within the chambers of the first and second half housing members when they are threaded together. The first half housing member has a threaded protrusion which fits into a threaded aperture located in the wall of a sealed structure, such as the wall of a vacuum furnace. The threaded protrusion arrangement includes a first "O" ring which seals the periphery of the aperture in the wall of the sealed structure. The header has first connectable terminals on one end and second connectable terminals on the other end. In between the first and second connectable terminals of the header there is located a plate member which fits along the edge of the first half housing member chamber; and located between that edge and the plate is a second "O" ring. Wires connecting the first and second terminals pass through the plate member in a sealed arrangement. The second half housing member has an abutting structure located at the end of its chamber so that when the second half housing member threads with the first housing member, the plate is pushed by the abutting structure to squeeze the second "O" ring to complete a seal of the first half housing member chamber. Accordingly, the first connectors are sealed against the outside world, but are connected to the circuitry within and outside of the sealed structure.
