    • A mobile bearing knee prosthesis apparatus includes a tibial plate. The tibial plate includes a medial lobe and a lateral lobe conjoined in a dividing plane. The apparatus further includes a tibio-femoral insert and a stud-like protuberance extending from the tibial plate into the tibio-femoral insert. The stud-like protuberance includes a protuberance sidewall positioned in the tibio-femoral insert. The protuberance sidewall is bisected by the dividing plane and includes a pair of opposing eccentric convex arcuate portions, and the tibio-femoral insert is moveable relative to the tibial plate about an axis medially disposed from the dividing plane. A mobile bearing knee prosthesis apparatus includes a tibial plate and a tibio-femoral insert coupled to the tibial plate. The tibio-femoral insert includes a generally posteriorly positioned chamfered superior surface and defines a generally posteriorly positioned generally U-shaped space bounded at least in part by the chamfered surface.

    • An implantation instrument and methods for reliably implanting a prosthetic acetabular cup in the acetabular area of the pelvic bone during a total prosthetic hip implant operation are disclosed. Such implantation device and methods also provide means for determining the adequacy or strength of the implant.The implantation device includes means for receiving an implantation force from, for example a mallet, and imparting this force to press fit the prosthetic acetabular cup into a recess formed in the acetabular area of the pelvic bone. The apparatus also includes means for testing the strength or adequacy of the acetabular cup implant by receiving and imparting a torquing moment. Finally, the apparatus includes an alignment arm which is laterally displaced from the longitudinal axis of the apparatus, and selectively fixed or rotatably connected, in order to implant the prosthetic acetabular cup in the desired orientation.The prosthetic acetabular cup contains a threaded recess therethrough, while the implantation instrument contains a threaded tip, for releasably connecting the acetabular cup and the implantation device. The cup is able to withstand forces associated with the steps of applying an implanting force and a torquing moment to test the stability of the implant.

    • A femoral prosthesis component system particularly for knee revision surgery comprising a set of femoral implant components constructed around a set of geometrical constants which allows resection of the distal femur to be conducted using the intramedullary canal as a reference point and without the requirement of first measuring for a specific implant size. The construction of all the components in the set is based around a constant relationship between the intramedullary shaft and the anterior flange such that the anterior resection is the same regardless of the size of the component used and the distal and posterior resections are standard cuts made based on this relationship and the intramedullary canal reference point. Adjustment of the distal and posterior resections to fit is made with a set of augments having dimensions also based on the standard distal and posterior resection cuts.

    • The milling instrumentation of this invention provides a milling guide connected to the femur for accommodating a milling device. The milling instrumentation includes an alignment guide which is used by the surgeon to set a femoral bracket or base on the medial and lateral sides of the exposed femur adjacent its distal end. Once the brackets are set, the alignment guide is removed and a milling guide is connected to the bases. The milling guide establishes a series of reference planes each including a slot. A powered milling device having a burr connected thereto is guided by the slots along the reference planes to accurately mill away a portion of the bone. The milling device includes a bobbin-shaped tip which positively engages the slots to ensure that the milling device is held substantially perpendicular to the reference planes of the milling guide. If necessary, other instrumentation may be connected to the femoral bases which would form a common connection point for the additional instruments thereby ensuring alignment between the various instruments. Optionally, a one piece cutting guide may be connected to the bases to allow resection of the bone by a standard oscillating saw blade. The cutting guide includes a plurality of slots such that all the cuts required for the femur can be made with one cutting guide without reorienting the guide.

    • The milling instrumentation of this invention provides a milling guide connected to the femur for accommodating a milling device.
