    • There is disclosed herein an apparatus and method for curling and confining a flexible lens and for inserting and injecting the lens into the eye. The apparatus includes an insertion cartridge including a delivery envelope having a lens holder essentially in the form of an envelope or like a flower petal, a constricting sheath which is slid relative to the envelope to cause the envelope to curl within the tip of the sheath and thereby curl and confine a lens disposed in the envelope, and a reentry barrier operating in conjunction with both the envelope and the sheath for facilitaing injection and delivery of the lens into the eye and for enabling retraction of the envelope into the sheath. The tip of the envelope is configured somewhat like a flower petal to enable the lens to be curled as the sheath is moved over the envelope, and to allow the delivery envelope to "flower out" and the lens uncurl as the envelope is pushed from the sheath. There also is disclosed an hand held pen to which the insertion cartridge is attached for manipulation during the surgical procedure, and a control unit and control system for controlling advancement of the lens out of the lens cartridge as well as retraction of the envelope. Also disclosed is a lens cartridge loader and package for the lens cartridge and lens.

A drive mechanism generates a time varying electromagnetic field extending into the first stage. A first pendulum member is pivotally mounted in the interior space of the first stage and includes first and second magnets on first and second ends, with the first end proximate to the drive mechanism such that the first magnet interacts with the varying electromagnetic field to cause movement of the pendulum member. The apparatus includes a second pendulum member pivotally mounted in the second stage with a magnet on a first end proximate to the second end of the first pendulum member. A flame silhouette element extends from the second pendulum member, and a light source transmits light onto the flame silhouette, which is moving due to the magnetic coupling of the pendulum members.

    • An eye wash station is provided which includes a pivotal basin to which is mounted a spray nozzle which is actuated when the basin is pivoted from a vertical to a horizontal position. In one embodiment, an independent eye wash feed tank is mounted above the top of the basin in its upright position with a conduit between the feed tank and the nozzle. In this manner, the spray is provided at a substantial continuous high pressure. Preferably, an eye wash collection tank is mounted below the basin to collect the liquid during operation. Furthermore, the basin cooperates with a vertical base member to provide a substantial enclosure for the basin when unactuated but to permit spraying when the basin is pivoted to a horizontal position.In another embodiment, the feed tank also is disposed within a normally enclosed basin housing formed by the base member and the basin in an upright position.
