    • A method for providing soft handoff between antennas in a multi-antenna system is provided according to some embodiments of the disclosure. A first packetized digital data stream may be received from a satellite using a first antenna and the data stream may include a plurality of packets that each include a header and data. The data may be provided, forwarded or stored in memory. In the meantime, a second packetized digital data stream is monitored. The second packetized digital data stream may be received from the satellite using a second antenna. The phase difference between the first packetized digital data stream and the second packetized digital data stream may be determined and added or subtracted from the second packetized digital data stream. The second packetized digital data stream may then be provided, forwarded or stored in memory.

    • A low-cost antenna array and method of manufacturing the array, in a planar form or in a structurally flexible or curved array structure are shown. The antenna array has a plurality of metallic antenna electrical and radiator elements formed on a foam core layer bonded onto a metallic ground layer. The radiator elements preferably are formed on a thin dielectric carrier layer bonded to the foam core layer. The array can include one or more additional dielectric layers, each with a plurality of parasitic radiator elements formed thereon, mounted on top of the electrical elements. Manufacturing the array preferably includes bonding the layers to one another. The electrical and radiator elements are formed, preferably by etching, before the foam core layer is bonded to the ground layer. The additional dielectric layer and the parasitic radiators then are bonded to the already formed electrical elements on the ground layer.

    • A variable power divider and method can vary the RF power between ports in a high power and multi-carrier RF environment, such as is used in controlling signals sent and received in a base station antenna. The variable power divider can include a single-control phase shifter and a hybrid power divider. The single-control phase shifter can comprise a three-port device having a single input port and two output ports. The single-control phase shifter can further comprise a variable adjuster that can change or adjust the phase between two RF signals. The hybrid power divider can comprise a four-port device having two input ports and two output ports. Both the single-control phase shifter and the hybrid power divider can comprise substantially planar structures that are suitable for high-speed manufacturing. The output ports of the hybrid power divider can be coupled to various devices such antennas or power absorbing elements.

    • A planar array antenna having radiating elements characterized by dual simultaneous polarization states and having substantially rotationally symmetric radiation patterns. A distribution network, which is connected to each dual polarized radiator, communicates the electromagnetic signals from and to each radiating element. A ground plane is positioned generally parallel to and spaced apart from the radiating elements by a predetermined distance. The conductive surface of the ground plane operates to image the radiating elements over a wide coverage area, thereby enabling a radiation pattern within an azimuth plane of the antenna to be independent of any quantity of radiating elements. Side walls, placed on each side of the array of radiators, can operate in tandem with the ground plane, to reduce the half-power beamwidth in the azimuth plane for a selected radiator design. A central polarization control network (PCN), which is connected to the distribution network, can control the polarization states of the received signals distributed via the distribution network by the radiating elements.
