    • A telescopic apparatus includes an internal tube telescopically inserted in an external tube. The internal tube includes depressions defined therein. A frame is secured to the external tube. A lever is pivotally connected to the frame. The lever includes a space transversely defined therein, a groove in communication with and in parallel to the space, and a pawl for insertion in a selected one of the depressions for locking the internal tube relative to the external tube. A spring is substantially located in the space. The spring includes a hook for hooking the frame and a bent section located in the groove. A short tube is located in the space and against the spring. A screw is inserted through the frame, the spring and the short tube. A security unit is movably connected to the frame between a locking position against the lever to avoid pivoting of the lever and a releasing position away from the lever to allow pivoting of the lever.

    • A system for diagnosing vehicle problems that may include a client device and central device. The client device may include a connector to connect to a vehicle and a vehicle interface to send and receive information from the vehicle. The client may also include an input/output system, a processor, and a communication system to communicate with the central device. The client device may capture a vehicle identification number (VIN) and may transmit the captured VIN along with geographic information to the central device. In response to received instructions from the central device, the client device may passively capture diagnostic information from the vehicle and transmit the diagnostic information to the central device. In response to the diagnostic information, the central device may transmit further instructions to the client device.

    • This invention characterizes the specific peptide fragment derived from specially prepared zinc charged fetuin and a method of preparation thereof, wherein the fragment was found to contain an apoptosis-inducing activity. Specifically, the amino acid sequence of this peptide is His Thr Phe Ser Gly Val Ala Ser Val Glu and correlates to amino acid no. 300-309 of fetuin, referred to herein as Fetuin Peptide Fragment (FPF 300-09). FPF 300-09 strongly induced apoptosis in LNCaP (prostate cancer) and HT-29 (colon cancer) cells without affecting CCD 18 Co (normal colon) cells. The in vitro tissue culture study demonstrated that the FPF 300-09 is more potent than the parent molecule (full-length zinc charged fetuin) in inducing apoptosis. FPF 300-09 has a LD50 of 0.3–0.4 μM while the LD50 for zinc-charged fetuin is 3–10 μM.
