    • Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for adjusting a timer mechanism based on radio frequency (RF) conditions of a network connecting source and destination devices are provided. Initially, data packets transmitted by the source device are assigned an ordering. This ordering is compared to an actual order in which the data packets are received at the destination device to ascertain whether any data packets were missing due to RF conditions. A negative response indicating missing, or lost, data packets may be returned, thereby invoking the source device to retransmit the data packets identified as missing. The device(s) may compute a probability of packet-loss (utilizing a recorded history of the transmitted packets in conjunction with the data packets actually received) and utilize the packet-loss probability to dynamically tune a time-interval of the timer mechanism. Upon expiration of the time-interval, the timer mechanism instructs the source device to retransmit the initial data packets.

    • An access network may identify paging areas based on a reference location (e.g., a mobile station's last known location), where each paging area includes at least one coverage area. The access network may then determine paging-channel occupancies for coverage areas in at least identified paging area. In turn, the access network may adjust a given identified paging area based on the determined paging-channel occupancies, resulting in an adjusted paging area. For example, the access network may add coverage areas to the given identified paging area and/or remove coverage areas from the given identified paging area based on the paging-channel occupancies for those coverage areas. Thereafter, the access network may page a mobile station associated with the reference location in the adjusted paging area.

    • Disclosed herein is a method for selecting one or more capsules in which to include a traffic channel assignment message. The method may be carried out in a wireless communication network that provides wireless service in a coverage area, wherein the coverage area comprises a plurality of sectors, wherein a control channel is provided in each sector, and wherein the wireless communication network is configured to transmit synchronous capsules and asynchronous capsules in each control channel. The method may comprise: (a) receiving a request from an access terminal to engage in a communication session; (b) making a determination of whether or not the requested communication session is of a type that is designated for priority service; (c) using the determination of whether or not the requested communication session is of a type that is designated for priority service as a basis for selecting one or more capsules in which to include the traffic channel assignment message; and (d) transmitting each of the selected capsules, wherein each of the selected capsules comprises the traffic channel assignment message.

    • Methods and systems for dynamically adjusting the page-concatenation level based on RF conditions being experienced by a mobile station are disclosed herein. An exemplary method involves (i) determining that a mobile station should be paged, wherein the mobile station is operating in a coverage area of an access network; and (ii) in response: (a) using at least one indication of RF conditions for the mobile station as a basis for selecting a page-concatenation level for a page to the mobile station; and (b) transmitting the page to the mobile station, wherein the page is transmitted in a page message having the selected page-concatenation level. In an exemplary embodiment, the indication of RF conditions may be a determination that a mobile station is located near the border of a coverage area, which is made based on an elapsed time since the mobile station's last-received registration message.
