摘要： Sulfonic acids are converted into a hydrocarbon oil of superior oxidation stability by transforming the acids into compounds selected from the group consisting of ammonium sulfonates, substituted ammonium sulfonates, and sulfonic acid esters; and hydrotreating the resultant sulfonic acid derivatives at elevated temperatures in the presence of a hydrotreating catalyst. The hydrotreating process frees the parent hydrocarbons that originally constituted the organic portion of the sulfonic acids by cleaving the carbon-sulfur bond of the sulfonic acid derivatives. These parent hydrocarbons are recovered from the reaction products of the hydrotreating step and comprise a hydrocarbon oil that exhibits a higher stability toward oxidation than can otherwise be obtained from other hydrocarbon oils of similar composition and viscosity.

摘要： A neutral oil soluble organosulfonic acid ammonium salt formed by reaction of C.sub.1 -C.sub.26 sulfonic acid with a nitrogen base chosen from the group consisting of mono-, di-, and tertiary amines, acid addition salts of such amines, or quaternary ammonium compounds, the nitrogen base having at least one hydrocarbyl group containing from about C.sub.1 to C.sub.36 carbon atoms, is added to an oil composition to improve the load-carrying capacity of the oil composition. The sulfonic ammonium salts are particularly effective in synthetic ester lubricants used in turbine engines. The oil compositions of this invention are also compatible with the silicone and fluorosilicone seals used in such engines.

摘要： Gaseous sulfur and nitrogen compounds are removed from mixed gases containing such compounds by contacting the gases with liquid organic disulfides in a contacting zone and withdrawing gases of reduced sulfur and nitrogen content. After contacting, the disulfides may be stripped of absorbed gases and then reused or instead may be converted into hydrocarbons substantially free of sulfur and nitrogen-containing constituents. The liquid disulfides are particularly effective for the selective removal of hydrogen sulfide from gases containing carbon dioxide.

摘要： Compositions prepared by blending asphalt and reject polypropylene which contains a mixture of atactic and isotactic polypropylene and includes inorganic salts and other residues from the polypropylene manufacturing process have outstanding wetting characteristics and surprisingly high adhesive strengths. These compositions can be employed for bonding polyolefins, metals, woods, papers and a wide variety of other materials and can also be molded for use in other applications. Such compositions are superior to blends of asphalt and essentially pure atactic or isotactic polypropylene.
