    • A knee brace includes a thigh cuff having inner and outer spaced brace arms adapted to extend along the user's thigh toward the knee, a calf cuff including inner and outer spaced brace arms adapted to extend along the user's calf toward the knee, and floating pivot axis hinges rotatably connecting the inner and outer brace arms of each pair. The pivot axis floats between the hinge plates depending on the degree of pivoting and sliding movement in a wearer' s knee joint as a result of flexion thereof.

    • An ankle brace for limiting flexing and pivoting movement of the ankle joint. The brace includes a soft resilient sock and a pair of brace panels positioned and retained over the sock on opposite sides of the ankle and foot. Each panel is formed by a pair of brace sections hinged together by a floating pivot axis hinge. The hinge includes pair of juxtaposed hinge plates adapted to pivot and slide with respect to each other. One of the plates is secured to the ankle section of the brace and the other is secured to the foot section of the brace. Each plate defines pivot face, with a concave groove defined in each face. The concave grooves are normally positioned at right angles with respect to each other when the pivot faces are juxtaposed. A single pivot bearing ball is positioned between the opposed pivot faces and retained in the concave grooves. A spring resiliently biases the hinge plates together against the ball pivot bearing. A second spring biases the plates for relative sliding movement.     • The present invention provides a process for improving the color of trimethylolpropane which comprises the steps of a) supplying a crude, aqueous base solution of trimethylolpropane, containing color causing impurities, and having a pH of less than about 9; b) contacting said base solution with an alkaline material for a period of time sufficient to increase the pH of said base solution to greater than 11 and at a sufficient temperature to allow the color causing impurities to react with said alkaline material; c) cooling the resulting solution from step (b) for a sufficient period of time; d) contacting said base solution of step (c) with an organic acid for a sufficient period of time to lower the pH thereof to less than about 9.5; e) extracting the trimethylolpropane from said base solution of step (d) with an organic solvent; f) separating the trimethylolpropane from said organic solvent; and g) purifying said trimethylolpropane from step f) to form a trimethylolpropane having a phthalic color of less than 0.20 and an acid wash color of less than 8.

Concrete storage containers can be manufactured with primary steel tanks and spill containment formed using an airtight tank wrap. Concrete storage containers can be manufactured with a barrier providing secondary containment to meet or exceed most current codes and standards commonly required for the storage of petroleum, flammable, combustible and other hazardous liquids. Such storage containers can include one or more thermal barriers that provide enhanced resistance when subjected to liquid-pool/furnace fire tests. Additionally, a concrete exterior acts as a thermal mass reducing temperature variations. The concrete exterior further provides a non-corrosive, durable exterior having increased vehicle-impact and projectile-impact resistance. Due to the method of construction in some embodiments, concrete storage containers are provided which give thermal/vehicle impact/projectile resistance while also meeting expectations in weight and buoyancy criteria.
