    • A method and system for instructing a computer in a system of a declarative computer programming language. Unlike traditional declarative languages, the programming language may be neither relational nor functional, neither procedural nor imperative. The declarative programming elements may be defined as a meta-description of logic and data. The basic morphology of this meta-description may be a data construct known as a Lattice. Lattices derive declarative power from their inclusion of “Attributes” and “Sites”. Attributes are declarative properties that determine the internal behavior of a Lattice; while Sites are declarative data access points that establish the external relationship a Lattice may have with other Lattices, Lattice Containers, and Lattice Elements. Each of these data constructs are highly adaptable, recursive, and expandable, providing the entire language with a degree of flexibility that facilitates a very high level of abstraction.

    • A method and apparatus for partial updating of client interfaces in a client-server environment. The client updates the corresponding server-side through a middleware “engine.” Individual interface element change requests may be queued. Programmatically defined events may trigger processing of the change request queue on the client, resulting in partial updating of an interface container, such as a Web page or XML document, in the client interface context. Processing may occur on the server, where resultant client update requests are likewise queued. Alternative programmatically defined events may trigger the return of the server change queue to the client. Only those elements of the interface container affected by changes in the queue are updated. This partial updating method replaces the need for refreshing an entire interface, thus affording a more desktop-like look and feel.

    • A method and apparatus for accessing Web services and URL resources for both primary and shared users over a reverse tunnel mechanism are provided. Current limitations on accessing Web services and URL resources located behind firewalls or otherwise made secure and largely inaccessible are overcome through a novel use of a “reverse tunneling” mechanism. The mechanism uses an Agent to obfuscate physical address endpoints of Web services and other resources, as well as to package SOAP service requests in such a way that they can be passed through firewalls unimpeded. All of this data transfer is made secure through encryption, strong authentication, and by making use of the security environment on both a user's individual device and the LAN proper. In addition, a primary user may share data access rights within the secure LAN environment to a secondary user and, using the present invention, provide only those access rights to the shared user over the open Internet.

    • A belt positioner 1 for installing a flexible belt into a grooved periphery 12 of a pulley 11. The positioner 1 comprises a belt guiding ramp 2, a pulley flange engaging mechanism 3, a handle 4 and a belt guiding rim 5. The belt guiding ramp 2 is extendible across the grooved periphery 12 and a belt-bearing slanting surface 20 of the ramp 2 enables the belt to be moved into engagement with the grooved periphery 12 when the pulley 11 is rotated about its rotational axis. The pulley flange engaging mechanism 3 comprises a groove 30 extending across the positioner 1 for receiving a pulley flange 13 bordering the grooved periphery 12 and a shoulder 31 bordering the groove 30 for bearing against a side face 14 of the pulley flange 13, wherein the engaging mechanism 3 locks the positioner 1 to the pulley 11 while the belt bears against the slanting surface 20. The handle 4 extends from the ramp 2 and provides a gripping surface 42 for fingers adjacent the ramp 2. In use the handle 4 extends laterally of the grooved periphery 12 and substantially parallel with the rotational axis of the pulley 11. When installing a belt, the positioner 1 need not engage a shaft of the pulley 11 nor be mounted to the pulley 11 in any additional way.
