摘要： A method for treating a porous item constructed of metal powder, such as a powder made of Series 400 stainless steel, involves a step of preheating the porous item to a temperature of between about 700 and 900° C. degrees in an oxidizing atmosphere and then sintering the body in an inert or reducing atmosphere at a temperature which is slightly below the melting temperature of the metal which comprises the porous item. The thermal stability of the resulting item is enhanced by this method so that the item retains its porosity and metallic characteristics, such as ductility, at higher (e.g. near-melting) temperatures.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method for selectively detecting and/or measuring gaseous SO2 at a temperature of at least 500° C., the method involving: (i) providing a SO2-detecting device including an oxygen ion-conducting substrate having on its surface at least three electrodes comprising a first, second, and third electrode; (ii) driving a starting current of specified magnitude and temporal variation between the first and second electrodes; (iii) contacting the SO2-detecting device with the SO2-containing sample while maintaining the magnitude and any temporal variation of the starting current, wherein said SO2-containing sample causes a change in the electrical conductance of said device; and (iv) detecting the change in electrical conductance of the device based on measuring an electrical property related to or indicative of the conductance of the device between the first and third electrodes, or between the second and third electrodes, and detecting SO2 in the SO2-containing sample based on the measured change in electrical conductance.

摘要： The present invention is a glass-ceramic material and method of making useful for joining a solid ceramic component and at least one other solid component. The material is a blend of M1-M2-M3, wherein M1 is BaO, SrO, CaO, MgO, or combinations thereof, M2 is Al2O3, present in the blend in an amount from 2 to 15 mol %, M3 is SiO2 with up to 50 mol % B2O3 that substantially matches a coefficient of thermal expansion of the solid electrolyte. According to the present invention, a series of glass ceramics in the M1-Al2O3-M3 system can be used to join or seal both tubular and planar solid oxide fuel cells, oxygen electrolyzers, and membrane reactors for the production of syngas, commodity chemicals and other products.

The ceramic part comprises: an insulating layer affixed to a substrate wherein the insulating layer comprising Al2O3 particles; and a glass comprising about 45 to about 69 mole percent SiO2, 0 to about 9 mole percent B2O3, 0 to about 26 mole percent Al2O3, 0 and 25 mole percent SrO, and about 10 to about 26 mole percent RE2O3, where RE2O3 is selected from the group consisting of Y2O3, three valent rare earth oxides, and combinations comprising at least one of the foregoing.In one embodiment of a ceramic part, a gas sensor comprises: an electrolyte layer having disposed on opposite sides thereof a first electrode and a second electrode; and an insulating layer that is in intimate contact with the second electrode, wherein the insulating layer comprises alumina and frit.The method of making the gas sensor comprises: disposing a first electrode and a second electrode on opposite sides of an electrolyte layer; forming an insulating layer comprising alumina and frit; disposing the insulating layer adjacent to the second electrode to form a green sensor; and heating the green sensor to a temperature sufficient to sinter the electrolyte layer and the insulating layer.
