    • A bus bar assembly (110) includes a pair of source and return bus bars (118,116) mounted on at least one of the side edges (108,112) of a daughter card (102) and electrically connected by arrays of terminals (172) to power circuits of the card, for use in a system for distributing electrical power to the daughter card module (100) upon insertion into a card cage (10). The pair of bus bars (118,116) is insulated by a cover (120) having a rail (126) for following the guide channels (18,20) of the card cage at each card location.     • An electrical connector assembly including integral means for self-alignment and adapted to be used with flat power cable having relatively wide terminals terminated thereonto. A polarizing system is provided complementary to said self-alignment which provides assured mating prevention upon improper connector polarizing orientation. One embodiment is adapted for rack and panel applications where one of the connectors is float mounted. Another embodiment is adapted for delatchably latching together of the connectors with low profile latch arms. A system of polarizing the assembly of terminated dual conductor cables in a housing is provided for control of the electrical connections of the two conductors of each flat cable, by using a polarizing projection on one of the two terminals on each cable, and a corresponding channel along the appropriate one the terminal-receiving cavities of the housing for passing of the projection upon proper cable orientation.

    • A tap or splice connector especially useful for a pair of dual conductor flat power cables includes two pairs of upper and lower structures which are applied to the stacked in-line cables side-by-side and then enclosed in a housing. The upper and lower structures each have a transverse array of cable-engaging wave-shaped bosses alternating with wave-receiving relief recesses when pressed together, so that the waves press strips of both cables in upper and lower arrays into the opposing recesses thus exposing conductor edges of the strips for electrical connection. Outer surfaces of the structures are then staked to urge the metal thereof laterally and tightly against the conductor edges adjacent thereto. The cables may first be prepared by punching medial slots thereinto at the interconnection site; the structures when applied are spaced from each other; and the housing covers include axial wall sections which extend between the side-by-side structures and through the cable slots, assuring isolation of the circuits. The structures preferably are self-locking upon being staked to secure the upper and lower structures to each other and to the cables. The housing covers may have opposed integral resilient cable-clamping sections to compensate for cable thickness differences.

    • An adapter substrate (40) for carrying one or more electrical components (80,90), includes plated circuitry to which the components are connectable, to comprise a member securable between a chip carrier socket (20) and a printed circuit panel (14) and provide electrical interconnection therebetween. The electrical components are connected to selected ones of the interconnections between the socket and the panel in order to modify, effect or sense the selected interconnections. While the other interconnections are passed through the substrate such as by plated through-holes (44), the selected interconnections are interrupted by the dielectric material of the substrate (40) and are plated blind holes (46) connected by path segments (120) to be electrically connected to the one or more electrical components; completing the connection to the socket's contacts are plated through-holes (116) and path segments (128) to contact pads (52). Into the plated through-holes and plated blind holes alike can be inserted post members (42) matable with plated through-holes (16) of the panel; contact sections connectable with the socket's contacts (28 ) can be pads (52) for surface mounting. One such adapter can be used to fabricate an assured backup power supply (10) for an IC chip carried in the socket (20), when a battery (80) and a logic chip control circuit (90) therefor are the electrical components.

    • An electrical connector includes a housing having a base and first and second parallel walls which are connected to the base. The first and second walls are spaced-apart to define a slot therebetween. The first wall has a thickness and an open portion which exposes the slot through the thickness of the first wall. The second wall has a thickness and an apertured portion which exposes the slot through the thickness of the second wall. The open portion is complementary to non-apertured portions of the second wall, and the apertured portion is complementary to non-open portions of the first wall. Multiple electrical connectors can be stacked by nesting the non-apertured portions of each connector in the open portion an adjacent connector, and nesting the non-open portions of each connector in the apertured portion of another adjacent connector.
