    • Mixing individualized media content. When individualized media content is generated from separate media clips or files, mixing the separate media clips includes controlling the audio. The volume of the audio in each clip is determined and normalized with respect to other media clips as the individualized media content is mixed. This provides a consistent audio experience even when the media content is generated from multiple sources having different properties. When more than one track of audio is present, such as voice audio and background music, the volume of one track is lowered such that the other audio track is audible. The volume of the background music, for example, is reduced such that the subscriber can hear the instructions in the voice audio.

    • Methods, systems, and computer program products for providing an audio interface to electronic documents. An audio interface receives a request for electronic content from a client and retrieves the requested document. Next, the document is parsed to identify various elements, such as title, text, and links included in the document. Many of those providing electronic content include hierarchical indices to aid clients in finding documents covering a particular topic. The audio interface includes a facility to preserve, enhance, or create this hierarchical organization by mapping a document's text and links into a corresponding audio hierarchy. The client is then presented with various options from which to make a selection. Outside of this hierarchy, the client receives the document title, the number of links contained within the document, an audio representation of the document's text, and may optionally chose to hear only the links included in the document. The audio interface also includes a number of global commands to facilitate navigation.

    • Systems and methods provide for secure communications between local and remote devices or networks in virtual private networks. Data can be communicated between the local and remote devices using the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) to reduce network overhead for the data communications. The UDP-based data communications are made secure and reliable by various techniques, for example: confirming that a packet sent by a source component is received by the receiving component, and guaranteeing packet sequencing by buffering packets as they are received and only delivering them to the target in the original sequence that they were sent from the source. Because TCP based communications are common, a TCP-style API can be used to enable programmers to more easily implement the UDP-based communications. Other embodiments of the invention relate to transport protocol enhancements for use within virtual private networks, including protocol mapping, protocol buffering, and protocol filtering.

    • A voice-enabled user interface and method for enabling a user that is providing audio and vocal input to access data from telephone service systems that are only responsive to dual tone multi-frequency (“DTMF”) signals. A user access the voice-enabled user interface with a telephone device and provides input that is translated into a DTMF translation that can be recognized by DTMF telephone service system. A template of the voice-enabled user interface maps menu states, prompts, and acceptable inputs of the DTMF telephone service system. The template also monitors the current state of the telephone service system at all times. The invention also enables a user to jump from one menu state to another menu state of the telephone service system without having to enter input for each menu state between the first and the second menu states.
