摘要： A treadmill of the present invention comprises a base, a pair of spaced rollers journalled in the base, an endless belt, a longitudinally extending support deck, and a deck spacer. One of the rollers constitutes a rear roller and the other roller constitutes a forward roller spaced forward of the rear roller. The endless belt is entrained around the rollers and includes an upper reach that extends longitudinally between the rollers. The upper reach of the belt is adapted to enable a user to walk or run thereon. The support deck is connected to the base and is operatively engageable with an underside of the upper reach of the endless belt for supporting the upper reach. The deck spacer includes a deck engaging portion adapted for operatively engaging the support deck. The deck engaging portion is adapted to operate in at least a first condition and a second condition. The deck spacer is adapted to provide a first resistance to downward movement of the deck relative to the base when the deck engaging portion is in the first condition, and to provide a second resistance to downward movement of the deck relative to the base when the deck engaging portion is in the second condition. The second resistance is different than the first resistance. The deck spacer includes a linearly moveable member that is linearly moveable relative to the base. The linearly moveable member is adapted for varying the deck engaging portion between its first and second conditions. In another aspect of the present invention, the deck spacer includes a rotatable member that is rotatably moveable relative to the base. The rotatable member is adapted for varying the deck engaging portion between its first and second conditions.

摘要： A motorless treadmill for exercising the upper body and lower body of a user. Displacement of an upper-body exercise mechanism such as a pair of reciprocating arm members rotates a drive roller. The drive roller is coupled to an endless belt, and a transmission system links the drive roller to the upper body exercise mechanism such that arm movements are translated into belt rotation. In one embodiment, pulleys are used as the transmission system to transmit the energy from the movement of the arm members to the belt. A flywheel may be added to store energy to smooth the belt rotation.

The torso body has a realistic skin covering the torso and interconnected at a hinge. A chest compression piston supports and resists chest compressions performed by a user. The chest compression piston is engaged with the central chest plate of the torso body by a quick release mechanism having detent locks for securing the piston engaged with the chest plate. A two-piece tiltable head configuration enables detachment of the back half of the head piece, and inversion for nested stacking within the front half head piece. The hollow torso body is likewise configured for convenient stacking, including the compression pistons, in a carrying container.

The machine provides for alteration using an inverted pendulum arm which is driven by rotation of a rail and which in turn drives a footskate on the rail. The position for the driving of the inverted pendulum arm by the rail and the driving of the footskate by the inverted pendulum arm are adjustable relative to each other so as to provide for multiple different stride lengths in exercising. The machine may allow for this adjustment to occur during the performance of an exercise routine.
