    • A speed change control system is equipped with a feedback mechanism which feeds back the gyration angle of a power roller and the axial displacement of the power roller, to a speed change control valve (100) via a speed change link (12). The feedback mechanism comprises a cam plate (2) which outputs a feedback amount according to the gyration angle of the power roller, an L-shaped link (7) which outputs a feedback amount according to the axial displacement of the power roller, and a feedback link (3) connected to the cam plate (2) and L-shaped link (7), and connected to the speed change link (12). The feedback gain of the feedback amount according to the axial displacement of the power roller due to the L-shaped link (7), is varied according to the gyration angle of the power roller.

    • A toroidal continuously variable transmission (11) having power rollers (18A-18D) held between input discs (19, 29) and output discs (21, 22) and transmitting power and a torque converter (12) having a lock up clutch (12D) connected to the continuously variable transmission (11) are provided. The line pressure of a working fluid supplied from a pump (1) is adjusted by a pressure regulator valve (2), and the adjusted line pressure is introduced to a lock up control valve (5) for controlling a fluid pressure to be supplied to the lock up clutch (12D) of the torque converter (12) through a pressure passage (31). Further, an oil cooler (32) is interposed in a downstream portion of the lock up control valve (5). The lubricating circuit of the continuously variable transmission is separated into a first lubricating circuit (33) for lubricating a bearing member of the power rollers (18A-18D) and a second lubricating circuit (35) for lubricating a rolling surface between the input and output discs (19-22) and the power rollers (18A-18D). The first lubricating circuit (33) is connected to a downstream portion of the cooler (32) and the second lubricating circuit (35) is connected to an upstream portion of the lock up control valve (5).

    • A reverse sensor lubrication system in a toroidal type continuously variable transmission is disclosed. The transmission includes a forward/backward mode switching mechanism, a toroidal type power transmission unit powered by the switching mechanism, a power transmission shaft driven by an output cone disc of the power transmission unit, a transmission output shaft driven by the power transmission shaft through a gear unit interposed therebetween, a speed change control valve switching means which selectively actuates a forward movement speed change control valve and a backward movement speed change control valve, a reverse sensor which is mounted on the power transmission shaft to cause the switching means to actuate the backward movement speed change control valve when the power transmission shaft is rotated in a backward direction, and a hydraulic circuit which controls operation of the transmission. The reverse sensor lubrication system comprises a first block which, when the power transmission shaft is rotated in a forward direction, lubricates the reverse sensor by using a fluid splashed by the gear unit; and a second block which, when the power transmission shaft is rotated in the backward direction, lubricates the reverse sensor by using a pressurized fluid provided by an oil pump installed in the hydraulic circuit.

    • Two speed change units of a continuously variable transmission for a vehicle are accommodated in chambers partitioned by an intermediate wall in a casing. Oil pan is fitted to the underside of the casing in order to store lubricating oil for the units. A strainer for filtering the lubricating oil is disposed in the oil pan. A controller comprising a control valve driven by an actuator via a speed change link, a cam and a feedback link is provided for controlling the speed change ratio of the speed change units. The actuator is disposed further towards the rear of the vehicle body than the intermediate wall. The control valve, feedback link and cam are disposed further towards the front of the vehicle body than the intermediate wall. This arrangement avoids the interference of the actuator and the strainer.
