    • There is provided a foldable portable radio capable of exhibiting high communication performance despite its slimness and compact housings.The portable radio has an upper housing 11 in which an upper circuit board 11A is placed; a lower housing 12A in which a lower circuit board 12 is placed; a conductive hinge 13A that joins the upper housing 11 to the lower housing 12 so as to be rotatable around one axis; an antenna element 14 placed in vicinity of the hinge 13A parallel to an axial direction of the hinge 13A; and a feed section 15 connected to a radio circuit 17 on the lower circuit board 12A. The antenna element 14 is electrically connected to the feed section 15, and the hinge 13A is connected as a ground, whereby the hinge 13A and the antenna element 14 operate as a dipole antenna.

    • The objective of the present invention is to provide a connection cable that serves as an external antenna for a radio apparatus, and whose antenna performance is not deteriorated in the use state by an adverse affect attributable to the near proximity of a human body.According to the present invention, an antenna device, integrally formed with first connection means, which is to be connected to a radio apparatus, second connection means, which is to be connected to a peripheral device, and a connection cable and an antenna element, which are located in between and which transmit a plurality of signals from the radio apparatus to the peripheral device, includes: first relay means, located at a middle position in the connection cable, for relaying the plurality of signals; the antenna element, located between the second connection means and the first relay means; and a coaxial line, located between the first connection means and the first relay means for transmitting, to the radio apparatus, an antenna reception signal that has been received at the antenna element and has been extracted by the first relay means, wherein the antenna element serves as an external antenna for the radio apparatus.

    • A conductive metal frame attached to an upper case is electrically connected to hinge metal member. The hinge metal member is connected to a hinge metal member by a rotary shaft in a rotatable manner. The hinge metal member, a further hinge metal member, and the rotary shaft are made of conductive metal so that electric continuity is obtained at contact points thereamong. The further hinge metal member is connected to a matching circuit on a circuit board via a feedpoint terminal. A conductor element is connected to a ground pattern of the circuit board at a position close to a point at which the matching circuit is grounded. The structure as described above provides a folding portable wireless unit that can secure a high antenna performance in a calling state and a waiting state.

    • There is provided a foldable portable radio that can exhibit high phone call performance despite its low profile and small size.An antenna element 14 to be placed in the vicinity of a first hinge element 13A is connected to a power feed unit. The first hinge element 13A has a hinge fixing unit 131 and a hinge rotating unit 132. The hinge fixing unit 131 is connected to a second radio circuit 17B of a lower circuit board 12A by way of a second matching circuit 16B. The hinge rotating unit 132 is placed while spaced apart from a ground pattern on an upper circuit board 11A by a predetermined interval and connected to an end of the ground pattern of the upper circuit board that is close to the first hinge element 13A. The antenna element 14 and the first hinge element 13A configure a first dipole antenna. The ground pattern of the upper circuit board 11A and a ground pattern of the lower circuit board 12A configure a second dipole antenna that takes the hinge element 13A as a power feed system. The first hinge element 13A acts as a ground in the first dipole antenna and also as a power feed system in the second dipole antenna.
