    • A system software solution for testing various network elements/entities and processes in a telecommunications network is provided. A network under test contains network entities which save data to a common database that is associated with processing particular test cases. A server correlates database data from the network under test and compares it to anticipated test case results. A disposition of the test cases is determined. Various elements of the invention interface appropriately, and process accordingly, to accomplish the testing and test result(s) disposition. In addition, the test system provides a means to verify billing records within the telecommunications network. Integrated into the system is logic that captures timepoints associated with critical events in a phone call from a test application perspective (particularly the events important to correct billing) and comparing those timepoints with actual results from the tested network. Timepoints are time information with milestones in the progress of call processing. Time information of applicable network elements is first assured to be synchronized, or translated for consistency. The test application timepoints are gathered, compared to billing records associated with the test case (e.g. call), and used to produce an accurate test case result.

    • The present invention provides a method of and system for managing test case versions in which each test case version is associated with an application program load version. A set of test case versions is maintained in a test case library or database. Each test case version is identified in the test case library by date order sequence number. A test case version is selected for use with respect to a particular application program version selecting a subset of test case versions from the set of test case versions. The subset includes test case versions, if any, associated with the particular application program version and test case versions associated with application program versions earlier than the particular application program version. The method selects the latest application program version included in the subset of test case versions. The method then selects the latest test case version from the versions for the selected latest application program version.

A configurable emulator correlates database data from the network under test and compares the received message with anticipated test case results. A disposition of the test case is determined and a response is made by the emulator. Emulator configuration allows defining a network switching elements predictable behavior, with appropriate response messages thereof, based on received messages. Controlling a network switching elements behavior allows testing the behavior of other related network elements.

    • A safety needle assembly is provided herein which includes a hub; a needle fixed to the hub, the needle having a distal end, formed for insertion into a patient, and a proximal end; a first shield having a tubular body at least partially encircling a portion of the needle, wherein in an initial state, the first shield extends from the hub; a second shield having a tubular body at least partially encircling a portion of the needle; a biasing element disposed to urge the second shield distally towards the distal end of the needle; and, a releasable retaining arrangement for releasably retaining the second shield in a first state.
