    • A weapon simulator comprising a combustion chamber (1), means (2) for admitting fuel gas to the combustion chamber, an inlet valve (9) for admitting air to the combustion chamber, the inlet valve being biased open at ambient pressure and arranged to close in response to both pressure rise and drop in the combustion chamber, means (7) to introduce ambient air into the combustion chamber through the valve (9), ignition means (3) for igniting fuel gas in the combustion chamber to cause an explosion, and an exhaust port (2) in the combustion chamber through which exhaust gases can exit rapidly and with audible results in response to explosive pressure rise within the combustion chamber.

    • A simulated ammunition round (1) is characterised by a gunfire simulator (4) having a combustion chamber (28), means (21) for admitting fuel gas to the combustion chamber, ignition means (23) for igniting fuel gas in the combustion chamber to cause an explosion and an exhaust port (51) in the combustion chamber. The simulated ammunition round may comprise outlet valve means (14), e.g. a collapsible or frangible diaphragm, for closing the exhaust port and arranged to open rapidly and with audible results in response to explosive pressure rise within the combustion chamber. The simulated ammunition round may comprise means (38, 41) to enable firing of the round, the enabling means being responsive to loading of the round into the receiving chamber of a weapon.

    • The invention provides a weapon simulator which comprises a combustion chamber having an exhaust port, a mechanism for admitting fuel gas to the combustion chamber, an ignition system for igniting fuel gas in the combustion chamber to cause an explosion, and an outlet valve to close the exhaust port. The outlet valve is arranged to open rapidly and with audible results in response to an explosive pressure rise within the combustion chamber. Further, the outlet valve comprises a collapsible diaphragm and a breechblock having opposing clamping parts releasable secured together and which releasably grip the collapsible diaphragm such that the gripped portion of the diaphragm is released on its collapse due to the explosive pressure rise in the combustion chamber.

    • A gunfire simulator has a combustion chamber, means for admitting fuel gas to the combustion chamber, inlet valve means for admitting oxygen or an oxygen containing gas to the combustion chamber, ignition means for igniting fuel gas in the combustion chamber, an exhaust port in the combustion chamber and outlet valve means for closing the exhaust port and arranged to open rapidly in response to a pressure rise within the combustion chamber. Preferably the outlet valve means comprises a frangible diaphragm, which may be clamped by its marginal portion in a breach block during combustion.
