    • An image conversion unit (100) for converting an input image (602) into an output image (606) is disclosed. The image conversion unit (100) comprises: a filter (104) for selecting a group of connected input pixels from the input image (602), the group of connected input pixels having a size which is relatively small relative to the size of the input image (602), the input pixels of the group of connected input pixels having high luminance values relative to the range of input luminance values; and a pixel processor (104) for assigning luminance values to output pixels of the output image (606) on basis of the respective luminance values of the input pixels of the input image (602), whereby the luminance values of the output pixels corresponding to the group of connected input pixels are higher than the respective luminance values of the connected input pixels.

    • A video signal processing apparatus for processing a video signal comprises a receive unit (101, 103, 105) which receives the video signal comprising a sequence of pictures. A processing unit (107) applies a picture noise changing algorithm to the sequence of pictures and a variation unit (113) varies a spatial noise reduction setting for the picture noise changing algorithm between at least some consecutive pictures of the sequence of pictures in response to a predetermined variation rule. Specifically a set of picture manipulation processes (203, 205) with different spatial noise reduction characteristics may be provided and the variation unit (113) may select different picture manipulation processes in consecutive pictures. The approach may introduce high frequency noise flickering which is less perceptible to a viewer thereby reducing the perceived noise. The invention may in particular be applied to upconverted high picture rate video signals for hold type displays, such as Liquid Crystal Displays displays.

    • A method converts an input image signal (IS) into a drive signal (DS) for driving sub-pixels (SP) of a display device (DD) comprising display pixels (DPI) having at least two sub-pixel groups (SG1, SG2) being able to contribute to luminance information displayed. The conversion comprises a multi-primary conversion (MPC) which receives the input image signal (IS) and which is performed under a constraint (CO). The constraint (CO) is determined (CD) by substantially matching local display luminances (DL1, DL2; DLD) associated with the at least two sub-pixel groups (SG1, SG2) with corresponding local input luminances (L1, L2; LD) of input pixels (IP) of the input image signal (IS), thereby obtaining a display luminance pattern defined by the display pixels (DPI) corresponding to an input luminance pattern defined by the input pixels (IP) associated with the display pixels (DPI).

    • This invention relates to a method, a computer program, a computer program product, and a device for reducing motion blur of images of a video signal shown on a hold-type display (101), comprising estimating (1102) motion vectors of moving components in said images of said video signal; band-pass filtering (1100, 1101) said video signal with respect to a spatial frequency domain, wherein said band-pass filtering at least partially depends on said estimated motion vectors, and wherein with increasing length of said estimated motion vectors, the passband of said band-pass filtering adaptively shifts from high spatial frequencies to medium spatial frequencies; and combining (1104) said video signal and said band-pass filtered video signal to produce an input video signal for said hold-type display.
