Since only the scanning module inside the automatic document feeder is used for scanning the document without the participation of the flatbed image scanning portion, the operative space for accommodating the scanning module in the flatbed image scanning portion is not required. As a result, the length and the overall volume thereof are reduced.

摘要： A duplex scanning apparatus includes a sheet feeding tray, a sheet pick-up roller and a sheet separation roller. The sheet feeding tray includes a first opening and a second opening. The sheet pick-up roller and the sheet separation roller are partially received in the first opening and the second opening of the sheet feeding tray, respectively, so that the sheet pick-up roller and the sheet separation roller are sustained against documents on the sheet feeding tray. For performing duplex scanning operations on the stack of paper sheets, the documents are successively scanned from the bottommost paper sheet to the uppermost paper sheet. As a consequence, the scanned documents are stacked in the discharging tray in the same order as that of the original stack.
