The apparatus includes a network interface which is connected to a sink device which utilizes the content items, and a protection process section which executes mutual authentication for exchanging keys requested by the sink device in a state where a network connection is established with the sink device via the network interface and performs a protection process of encrypting the content items by the secret key shared as a result of successful mutual authentication and transmitting the encrypted content items to the sink device.
