    • A shareable application program interface (API) and network data model infrastructure which is used in combination with a relational database to provide data storage and processing functions for network data. The network data model is stored in relational tables that describe a set of nodes and links forming a network wherein each node represents an object of interest and each link represents a relationship between two nodes. A generic node table contains a row describing each node in the network, and a generic link table contains row data describing each link. In addition, a path table whose contents are commonly generated by network analysis procedures contains rows which describe corresponding paths each consisting of an alternating sequence of nodes and links. The sequence of links in each path are identified in a separate path-link table. The system provides two application program interfaces, a PL/SQL API and a Java API, which permit executing application programs to use stored procedures for creating the node and link tables, store data describing nodes and links in the tables, and perform standard operations on the network data.

    • Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with generating a network buffer are provided. A network data model is input that includes a set of network elements, such as nodes and links, and respective costs associated with respective network elements. A center network element around which to generate the network buffer and an offset cost to define a boundary of the network buffer are also input. A network buffer is generated by determining a buffer coverage and cost. The network buffer is made up of a set of buffer network elements located within the offset cost with respect to the center network element. The cost for each buffer network element is determined as the cost associated with travelling a path with minimum cost from the center network element to the corresponding buffer network element. The buffer coverage and costs are output for subsequent analysis.

    • A technique used with PL/SQL routines that are wrappers for Java routines which permits a PL/SQL wrapper routine to supply a Java class to the Java routine executed by the wrapper routine. The invocation of the wrapper routine includes a parameter value that specifies the class. The relational database system in which the PL/SQL routine is being executed includes a row source for a row that relates the parameter value to a definition for the class that is to be supplied. When the PL/SQL routine is executed, the PL/SQL routine uses the parameter value to query the row source and provides the class definition returned by the query to the Java routine. The technique is employed in a network analysis API that is made up of PL/SQL wrapper routines to supply classes defining network constraints to the Java routines executed by the wrapper routines.

One method embodiment includes accessing a network analysis request and data associated with a set of network partitions associated with a network. The request describes a function to be performed on the network. A set of partitions subdivides the network and a data model stores data describing the network and its partitions. Thus, the example method may include identifying a member of the set of network partitions associated with the network analysis request and selectively loading data associated that member. The method may then perform the network analysis function on the data associated with the member rather than on data describing the entire network.
