    • The present invention provides an optical sheet having a plurality of light guide plate patterns, each light guide plate pattern having a micro-patterned output surface for emitting light, and a micro-patterned bottom surface opposing to the output surface, made in steps comprising: extruding a first resin into the nip between a first pressure roller and a first patterned roller to form a first layer at a first patterned roller surface temperature T1 and a first nip pressure P1, the first layer having an unpatterned surface and a patterned surface, the patterned surface having a micro-pattern transferred from the first patterned roller, and conveying the first layer into a nip between a second patterned roller and a second pressure roller in a second extrusion station; and extruding a second resin into the nip between the second pressure roller and the second patterned roller and onto the unpatterned surface of the first layer to form a second layer at a second patterned roller surface temperature T2 and a second nip pressure P2, the second layer having a micro-pattern transferred from the second patterned roller; the combined first and second layers forming the optical sheet comprising the plurality of light guide plate patterns.

    • The present invention provides a light redirecting article for redirecting light toward a target angle, the light redirecting article comprising: an input surface comprising a plurality of light redirecting structures. Each light redirecting structure has (i) a near surface having two slopes, sloping away from normal in one direction as defined by a first inclination base angle β1, a second inclination angle β2, and a first half apex angle α2, for accepting incident illumination over a range of incident angles and (ii) a far surface sloping away from normal, in the opposite direction relative to the input surface, as defined by a second base angle γ1 and a second half apex angle α1. In addition, light redirecting structures has (b) an output surface opposing to the input surface, wherein the near and far surfaces are opposed to each other at an angle (α1+α2), and the base angle β1 is greater than or equal to 90 degrees.

    • A backlight unit contains a light source, a light guiding plate, and a turning film having a light entry and a light exit surface comprising first prismatic structures on the exit surface, wherein (a) the first prismatic structures on the turning film are characterized by a far base angle (β1) and a near base angle (β2); (b) the light source comprising an array of individual sources of differing colors; (c) the light guiding plate being located to provide light from each individual light source having a different principle angle to the turning film for each color; and the light guiding plate being arranged in a manner relative to the light source and the turning film and its first prismatic structures and base angles so as to reduce the amount of color separation at the exit surface of the turning film compared to the same device using a single light source.

    • A light redirecting article redirects light toward a target angle. The light redirecting article is made from a material having a refractive index greater than 1.6. The light redirecting article has an input surface for accepting incident illumination over a range of incident angles and an output surface with a plurality of light redirecting structures, each light redirecting structure having a near surface and an exit surface for emitting an output light at an emitted light angle, wherein the exit surface is at an oblique angle relative to the plane of the input surface. For incident illumination at either of at least two different principal angles, each principal angle being greater than 60 degrees from normal and the principal angles having a difference of 5 degrees or greater, the emitted light angle is within 5 degrees of the target angle.
