    • Disclosed herein is a method and apparatus for driving a plasma display panel, which improves contrast characteristics and preventing a low discharge making a cell non-luminous at a specific gray scale. The method for driving a plasma display panel includes the steps of initializing a cell by supplying a first write voltage and an erase voltage to a scanning electrode during a reset interval of the n-th sub-field; initializing the cell by supplying the erase voltage and a second write voltage which is higher than a sustaining voltage and lower than the first write voltage to the scanning electrode during a reset interval of the (n+1)-th sub-field; selecting the cell by supplying the scanning voltage to the scanning electrode and supplying a data voltage to an address electrode during an address interval of each of the n-th and (n+1)-th sub-fields; and alternatively supplying the sustaining voltage to the scanning and sustaining electrodes during a sustaining interval of each of the n-th and (n+1 )-th sub-fields.

    • A plasma display apparatus is disclosed. The plasma display apparatus a first energy recovery circuit and a second energy recovery circuit. The first energy recovery circuit forms a first energy supply path for supplying an energy to a scan electrode and a first energy recovery path for recovering an energy from the scan electrode.     • The present invention relates to an energy recovery circuit of a PDP and a drive method thereof in which the energy recovery circuit uses a booster drive circuit that is able to reduce a sustain voltage by half to thereby reduce the amount of energy consumed by a drive circuit of the PDP and reduce a rise time of a sustain pulse. According to the present invention, a plasma display panel includes sustain means for providing energy to electrodes related to selected cells to effect discharge in the selected cells, and a panel capacitor, wherein the sustain means comprises: an inductor for,charging or discharging the panel capacitor; inductor charge path means which provides a path through which energy is charged to the inductor and is opened when the inductor is substantially fully charged; panel capacitor charge path means which provides a path through which the panel capacitor is charged with the energy charged in the inductor and is opened when the panel capacitor is substantially fully charged; panel capacitor discharge path means which provides a path through which the panel capacitor is discharged and is opened when the panel capacitor is substantially fully discharged; and auxiliary storage means which stores energy if the substantially fully discharged state of the panel capacitor is maintained and supplies the energy to the panel capacitor if the substantially fully charged state of the panel capacitor is maintained.
