摘要： Genes encoding an apoptosis-induced eukaryotic initiation Factor-5A (eIF-5A) and an apoptosis-induced deoxyhypusine synthase (DHS), whose expressions are induced by the onset of apoptosis, are identified. The DHS gene and the eIF-5A gene, alone or in combination, as well as inhibitors of the DHS reaction, are used to modulate apoptosis in animals and humans. For example, modulation of apoptosis in cells of animals and humans is achieved by introduction of a gene or gene fragment encoding apoptosis-induced eIF-5A, apoptosis-induced DHS, or both into the animal or human cell in antisense orientation.

摘要： The preferred field assembly includes a field shell of generally T-shaped radial cross-section and molded of powdered metal, a plastic bobbin for supporting a multiple turn winding, and a plastic bobbin ring which covers part of the field shell and which helps hold the bobbin in assembled relation with the field shell. The bobbin is formed with a terminal block for supporting electrical leads which extend along grooves in the outboard face of one flange of the bobbin and which, together with the end portions of the winding, extend into potting cavities in the outboard face of the bobbin flange. The bobbin ring includes a cap which interfits with the terminal block to retain the leads. Various embodiments of field shells, bobbins and bobbin rings are disclosed.

摘要： One pair of actuating piston and cylinder assemblies are operatively connected to the polish or sucker rod of the pump and are extended or retracted by hydraulic fluid. A further pair of piston and cylinder assemblies are operatively connected to the polish rod and are operatively connected on the underside thereof to an accumulator that includes an inert gas over oil with the gas being supplied under adjustable control conditions from a cylinder or source of high pressure gas so that these further pair of piston and cylinder assemblies counteract the weight of the pump system. On the downstroke, pressure is supplied to the upper sides of all four piston and cylinder assemblies with the two further piston and cylinder assemblies supporting the weight via the accumulator. The gas pressure is adjustable to support the desired proportion of the weight of the pump assembly and the oil being pumped thereby and other accumulators are provided in the circuits to cushion the shock load at either end of the stroke of the pump. Automatically operated switch valves and adjustable flow dividers control the oil flow to the piston and cylinder assemblies at either end of the stroke and the speed of the stroke respectively.

摘要： A self-tensioning wire reel comprises two flanges threaded together such that, when a brake shoe applies a braking force to one flange, the other flange is free to continue rotating. This rotation on the threaded hubs brings the flanges closer together, exerting a lateral force on the wire coil therebetween and thus keeping the coil sufficiently tight to prevent binding during the unreeling operation. The brake shoe is a resilient cylindrical disk applied to the outer rim of one flange when tension is relieved on the wire. The tightness of fit between the disk brake and the shaft upon which it rotates controls the frictional braking force.
