摘要： Gases in the chimney of broken reservoir rock formed by the detonation of a nuclear device are withdrawn as quickly as possible following the detonation. The gases are pumped to another geologic horizon for disposal until the level of long half-life, gaseous contamination drops below the tolerable limits for such contamination. By withdrawing the contaminated gases from the chimney quickly, the pressure in the chimney at the time of withdrawal will be near that immediately after the nuclear explosion and will not have built up to values near the equilibrium pressure of the reservoir. The amount of reservoir gas contaminated with said radioactive contamination and the consequent disposal problem are thereby minimized. Decontaminating processes at the surface to reduce said long half-life, gaseous contamination may be avoided. When the level of said long half-life, gaseous radioactive contamination falls below the tolerable limits for such contamination, the gases thereafter withdrawn from said chimney may be recovered as product gas suitable for processing and use.

摘要： Two or more wells are drilled into a coal seam. Each well is completed to isolate all other strata from the coal seam. A radial horizontally directed fracture is induced so as to connect the wells communicatively. The coal seam is ignited through at least one injection well and the combustion front propagated from one or more injection wells through the horizontal fractures to subsequent production wells by injection of a combustion supporting gas. Injection pressures utilized are sufficiently high to raise the overburden at the fractured surfaces and permit continued air injection during the combustion process. Regulation of the width of the fracture network and corresponding gas and liquid flow is achieved by the control of the injection pressure. The continued production of a flammable gas and coal tar liquids is thereby afforded.

摘要： The well is drilled and cased to slightly above the gasproducing horizon. Drilling within the gas-producing horizon is performed by use of a nonaqueous drilling fluid. If the well is not sufficiently productive the adjacent formation is subjected to at least one stimulation by an explosive and test for adequate production. A hydraulic fracture network is induced by use of nonaqueous fracturing fluid, if appropriate stimulation is not achieved by the explosive means. The problem of irreversible wellbore damage created by water base drilling muds and aqueous fracturing fluids is avoided. Formation permeability restrictions in the vicinity of the wellbore are overcome by the use of the nonaqueous well completion technique.
