    • Liquid crystal display (LCD) devices are fabricated by forming a patterned gate layer on a substrate and forming an insulating layer, a semiconductor layer and a conductive layer on the patterned gate layer. The conductive layer is patterned to define a data line, a source electrode, a drain electrode and a pixel electrode for the LCD device. A passivation layer is formed on the patterned conductive layer. The passivation layer is removed from on at least a portion of the pixel electrode. At least a portion of the semiconductor layer between the data line and the pixel electrode is also simultaneously removed. LCD devices may thereby be fabricated with reduced numbers of patterning steps compared to conventional fabrication methods.

    • A liquid crystal display device includes; a first substrate, a second substrate facing the first substrate and having a common electrode, and a liquid crystal layer, the first substrate including; a plurality of pixels, a thin film transistor, a pixel electrode, a color filter including a first sub color filter, a second sub color filter and a third sub color filter, each sub color filter including a different color, and a shield electrode receiving a common voltage and disposed substantially parallel to the data line along a boundary between adjacent pixels on the color filter, wherein the color filter disposed below the shield electrode comprises a convex region which protrudes toward the second substrate, the plurality of pixels comprise a first pixel having the first sub color filter, a second pixel having the second sub color filter and a third pixel having the third sub color filter, and the third sub color filter forms the convex region.

    • A liquid crystal display having an improved display characteristic and having a ring-structured storage capacitor of an independent wiring type wherein disconnection and/or short circuit defects are reduced and a method for manufacturing the same. The liquid crystal display has one or a plurality of first electrodes within each pixel region, for forming one or a plurality of auxiliary capacitors in conjunction with the opposing pixel electrode. The first electrodes surround the pixel electrodes in a ring type structure, and are connected to each other between adjacent pixel portions by at least one wiring connecting portion. The first electrodes are driven independently from the scanning signal lines and the display signal lines. Forming the first electrodes of the capacitors as independent wiring type having a ring structure simplifies the manufacturing process and utilizes the maximum pixel area. Also, the degree of freedom concerning the selection of the driving pulse signal of the liquid crystal display is improved to reduce the R-C delay.
