    • An image reading device comprises a line sensor that moves in an auxiliary scanning direction, a resolution setting device which sets the resolution of the line sensor in the auxiliary scanning direction, an exposure correction value setting device that sets an exposure correction value when the image is read, and a control device that performs exposure correction by multiplying the moving velocity of the line sensor and the accumulation time of the line sensor by correction factors. To correct the base concentration while reducing the effects of deterioration of the S/N ratio and level-skipping, a rough adjustment of the exposure is conducted by a gain circuit, a fine adjustment is conducted with reference to a first look-up table, and a further fine adjustment of the original document base concentration is conducted with reference to a second look-up table.

    • An electronic still camera comprises a photoelectric converting device for converting light from an object into an electrical signal; an amplifying-recording device for amplifying the electrical signal and for recording the amplified signal on a recording medium; a selecting device for selecting one of plural amplification gains so that the amplifying-recording device amplifies the electrical signal on the basis of the selected amplification gain; an exposure time in accordance with the selected amplification gain and the luminance of an object to be photographed; and a determining device for determining a longest permissible exposure time, irrespective of the luminance of the object, in accordance with the selected amplification gain. If the calculated exposure time is longer than the longest permissible exposure time, an alarm is given and/or the calculated exposure time is reduced.

    • A marker corresponding to an editing state at an arbitrary point in time of image data being edited is stored in memory. The image of an arbitrary editing state can be displayed by a user selecting the displayed marker. The original image data is not updated. When saving the image data file, the saved editing state at an arbitrary point of time can be saved as a single file together with the original image data. By selecting a plurality of markers, images corresponding to a plurality of processing states can be displayed simultaneously. A marker can be used to create a new image data file of a desired processing state, or a plurality of markers can be selected to create a plurality of new image data files. Image data can be displayed as thumbnail images, and thumbnail images and ordinary images can be concurrently displayed.

    • A personal computer to which electronic equipment, such as, an electronic camera is connected reads recording units that are recorded in the electronic camera and displays a table consisting of recording information. In recording information such as a main image, a sub image and sound in the electronic camera, data within the electronic camera are inter-related by an index which indicates that the information is part of a common recording unit. The date having the same index are output and displayed in a same thumbnail area. When a recording unit for deletion is designated from the table, check boxes are displayed according to information contained in the recording unit. For example, an “x” is displayed in the check box of the information to be deleted, indicating that the information is a target of deletion. After the selection of information is completed and an “OK” button is pressed, the personal computer sends a control command to the electronic camera and deletes the designated information. Rather than deletion, the designated information can be read from the electronic camera into the personal computer.
