摘要： A toothpaste formulation contains ultraviolet brighteners as a whitening ingredient. Such optical brighteners have a whitening or bleaching effect when in contact with ultraviolet radiation. The activation of the brighteners preferably occurs through the use of a toothbrush having a UV source which transmits light through the bristle field of the toothbrush. The toothbrush could be a manual toothbrush or a powered toothbrush.

摘要： A dye is incorporated in a carrier. The dye has the characteristics of attaching itself to residual plaque on the tooth surface. The dye also has the characteristic of being activated by the presence of ultraviolet radiation to visually create a fluorescent effect that would indicate the presence of plaque remaining on the teeth. The carrier can be toothpaste or any other form of tooth applicator, such as a rinse or gum. The UV light source could be from a separate device or could be mounted in the toothbrush itself.

In one aspect, the invention can be an oral care implement comprising: a handle; a head attached to the handle; a flexible support attached to the head and having a face; a plurality of cleaning elements attached to the flexible support and projecting outwardly from the face, the cleaning elements including bristles and wall-like elements and being movable in the outward direction from the head; wherein the cleaning elements comprise a row of first cleaning elements substantially aligned along a longitudinal axis of the head and traversing a central region of the flexible support; and wherein some of the wall-like cleaning elements laterally radiate from the central region of the flexible support.

摘要： An oral care implement is provided having a handle and a head with tooth cleaning elements extending from fixed pods. Additional tooth cleaning elements extend from one or more central pods suspended between the fixed pods via a bridge. The bridge may be formed from an elastomer and permit the one or more central pods to move from an initial position toward the head during use. The central pods, the bridge and outer portions of the fixed pods may be formed as a unitary structure. When a single central pod is employed, a flexible section may be disposed in the middle of the central pod so that cleaning elements extending from either end of the central pod can move toward one another during use.
