    • A system (100) is provided wherein a primary radio signal and a redundant radio signal are transmitted from a transmitter subsystem (120) and received by a receiver subsystem (140). The output (112) of an audio source (110) is coupled to a modulator (160) for modulating a radio frequency signal (162) for coupling to a transmit antenna (172). A second output (114) of audio source (110) is coupled to a delay circuit (116), for adding a predetermined time delay thereto. The delayed audio source signal is coupled to a modulator (164) for modulating a second radio frequency signal (166) that is also coupled to the transmit antenna (172). The receiver subsystem (140) receives both the primary radio signal and the delayed redundant radio signal and couples each to a respective demodulator (180, 182). At least one demodulator (180) includes a circuit (181) for determining the degradation in the primary radio signal and provides a quality measurement output signal (186) to a blend control circuit (190). The recovered primary audio signal from demodulator (180) is coupled to a second delay circuit (184), the time delay of second delay circuit (184) being substantially equal to the time delay of delay circuit (116). The audio output from delay circuit (184) and the redundant audio output from demodulator (182) are coupled to a blending subsystem (135), wherein each is combined with a weighting factor and then combined together to form a composite audio signal for coupling to the audio output circuit (150).

    • A monolithic direct digital UHF/L-Band receiver for receiving and processing a UHF/L-Band analog signal and deriving digitized samples, the receiver operating in a tuning frequency range centered at a center frequency and having a baseband frequency, a lower bandedge frequency, and an upper bandedge frequency. The receiver comprises: a substrate; an analog-to-digital converter, mounted on the substrate, for digitally sampling at a sample rate the UHF/L-Band analog signal; a heterodyning circuit, coupled to the analog-to-digital converter and mounted on the substrate, for mixing the digitally sampled signal with a mixing signal thereby shifting the center frequency of the tuning frequency range of the sampled signal to the baseband frequency; and means, coupled to the heterodyning circuit and mounted on the substrate, for decimation filtering and decimating the mixed signal to obtain a second sample rate lower than the sample rate.

    • A system for automatically forming a receive beam being positioned in the direction of a corresponding incoming signal, the system having a known signal corresponding to the incoming signal. The system comprises a plurality, M, of channels, each of the channels collecting the incoming signal and generating a plurality, L, of incoming complex data samples for the incoming signal and a plurality, L, of known complex data samples for the known signal. The system also includes severaly digital beamforming means for forming the receive beam. Each of the digital beamforming means includes means, coupled to the channels, for computing an M by 1 weight vector, W, having several weight elements each corresponding to one of the channels, the computing means including means for solving, for W, the equation, R W=C, where R is an M by M coefficient matrix, an element in the i-th row and the j-th column being an estimate of a value obtained from cross-correlating the incoming complex data sample generated by the i-th channel with the incoming complex data sample of the j-th channel, and where C is an M by 1 constant vector, an element in the i-th row being an estimate of a value obtained from cross-correlating the incoming complex data sample generated by the i-th channel with the known complex data samples. Each of the digital beamforming means further includes multipliers for generating weighted signals, each of the multipliers coupled to a corresponding one of the channels and multiplying one of the weight elements by the incoming complex data samples generated by the corresponding channel, and an adder, coupled to the multipliers, for adding each of the weighted signals.
