    • An insulation displacement connector (IDC) suitable for making an electrical connection to an electrical cable having first and second elongate electrodes separated by a polymer. The IDC is in the form of a fork having first and second tines separated from one another by a slot and connected at a base. Extending from the closed end of the slot, along part of the base, is a beveled groove with a cutting edge. The IDC may be used in an assembly which contains an insulation displacement connector (IDC) module with first and second piercing members, each of which contains an IDC. The IDC module can be mated with a wire guide module, so that when the cable is inserted into the wire guide module and the wire guide module and IDC module are secured, the first piercing member contacts and makes electrical connection to the first elongate electrode and the second piercing member contacts and makes electrical connection to the second elongate electrode. The IDC module and wire guide module can also be used in an electrical plug which can be connected to a source of electrical power.

    • A miniature appliance leakage current interrupter (ALCI) interrupts the flow of current through a pair of lines extending between a source of power and a load. The ALCI comprises a circuit breaker having a pair of normally closed switches, one switch being located in each of the pair of lines between the source of power and the load. The circuit breaker is connected to a relay circuit which selectively opens the pair of normally closed switches. The relay circuit is connected to a fault detection circuit which detects the presence of a ground fault condition in the pair of lines. When the ground fault condition detected exceeds a predetermined value, an integrated circuit chip in the fault detection circuit causes the relay circuit to open the circuit breaker. The ALCI further includes a housing having a top, a bottom, a front end and a rear end. A prong assembly for supplying power from the source of power to the remainder of the ALCI is in line mounted on the housing. In one embodiment of the present invention, the housing is permanently mounted on an electrical cord connected to the load and the prong assembly includes a line contact prong and a neutral contact prong. In another embodiment of the present invention, the housing is constructed so that it can be removably mounted on an electrical cord connected to the load and the prong assembly includes a line contact prong, a neutral contact prong and a ground contact prong.

    • An appliance leakage current interrupter (ALCI) comprising a ground fault detecting circuit and a trip mechanism that is automatically actuated in response to the presence of a ground fault. Actuation of the trip mechanism automatically interrupts the flow of current to the appliance and permits movement of a reset button to take place to visually signal that current to the appliance has been interrupted, although interruption of current flow is not in any way dependent on movement of the reset button, whereupon if movement of the reset button is prevented for any reason, flow of current to the appliance is still automatically and instantaneously interrupted in response to the presence of a ground fault. A test button is provided, actuation of which simulates a ground fault to enable a user at any time to determine whether the ALCI is working properly. The reset and test buttons are mounted on the housing of the ALCI in close adjacenty to each other for maximum compactness, and are protected against undesirable manipulation and accidental operation by an integral guard wall extending from the housing defining an enclosure in which said buttons are positioned.
