    • The color of a surface is determined by tracking the position of the surface using grayscale image sensing and then using captured grayscale image information, position information, and grayscale-to-color conversion information to determine color. In one embodiment, the technique requires establishing grayscale-to-color conversion information and a relationship between position and the grayscale-to-color conversion information. A calibration pattern is printed on a piece of paper and the surface of the paper is illuminated. Grayscale image information and position information related to the surface is generated in response to the illumination. Color-specific portions of the grayscale-to-color conversion information that are to be used in color determination are selected based on the position information. Grayscale image information related to the calibration pattern is then compared to the selected color-specific portions of the grayscale-to-color conversion information to determine the color of the calibration pattern.

    • A light emitting device is disclosed herein. An embodiment of the light emitting device comprises a first plurality of light emitters comprising a first group and a second group, wherein the first group is connectable in series to the second group. A first driver is connected to the first group. A second driver is connectable to the second group. A first voltage comparator is coupled to the first driver, wherein the voltage comparator compares the voltage of the first driver to a predetermined voltage. The light emitting device is in a first state when the voltage of the first driver is below the predetermined voltage. The light emitting device is in a second state when the voltage of the first driver is greater than the predetermined voltage. The light emitting device is in the first state, the first group is connected in series with the second group to form a series circuit between the first driver and a reference voltage. When the light emitting device is in the second state, the first group is connected between the first driver and the reference voltage and the second group is connected between the second driver and the reference voltage.

    • In an embodiment, the invention provides a multi-color illuminating back light structure comprising a light guide, a reflector, at least one LED and a wavelength converter material. Micro-structures are formed on a first surface of the light guide. The reflector is attached to the first surface of the light guide. A wavelength converter material is deposited on a second surface of the light guide. At least one LED is optically coupled to at least one side of the light guide. A portion of light reflected from the micro-structures and the reflector is converted into light having at least one wavelength different from the wavelength of the reflected light. The light leaving the wavelength converter material comprises light with at least first and second wavelengths.

    • The color sensing circuit includes a light detector to receive light and to generate a signal that is dependent on the received light. The light detector includes a first electrode coupled to a first node and a second electrode coupled to a second predetermined signal. A storage device is provided that includes a first node and a second node coupled to the second predetermined signal. A first switch is provided that selectively couples the first node with the first electrode of the storage device based on a charge control signal. A signal processing circuit is provided that includes a first electrode and an output to generate an output signal that represents the light received by the light detector. A second switch is also provided that selectively couples the first electrode of the storage device with the first electrode of the signal processing circuit based on an evaluate control signal. The signal processing circuit selectively asserts the charge control signal and evaluate control signal.
